💥 The European premier of The Basement will be at the DOK.fest München 💥

341 people, 160 square metres, 27 days. A Ukrainian village is locked in a cellar, the livestock killed, the farms devastated. One year later everything appears peaceful. The dogs are running around and the gardens are green but the wounds have barely healed. The children play war; the adults fluctuate between getting on with things and remembering. “Enjoy. Don’t drown.” A testimony to strength and solidarity.

🎬 Exciting News! Tomorrow marks the start of the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema Festivales de Buenos Aires (BAFICI), where our documentary, The Basement, will have its World Premiere.

A big thank you to the Institute of Documentary Film Prague and particularly Anna Kaslová. The last days of editing "Basement 341" in Paris.

In March 2022, Russian forces took control of the village of Yahidne in Northern Ukraine. They expelled the residents from their homes and confined them to the basement of the local school, which had been converted into a makeshift headquarters. The occupation lasted until March 30, 2022, during which time the Russians held the majority of Yahidne's population, comprising over 360 individuals, including 77 children, in a 198 square meter basement for nearly a month. Throughout the ordeal, Olha, a local resident, diligently documented their captivity in a diary. In the event that no one survives, this diary stands as a testament to the harrowing experiences endured during this period.

The film is co-produced by Minimal Movie together with Paris-based Elda productions and ARTE Release is planned for 2024. The film will be a part of the Generation Ukraine program at ARTE.

This is Ivan Ivanovich. He's the owner of the best Panama hat, an American to***co plantation, and a little dog named "Druzhok" (Buddy).

Ivan always sat near his plantation, and every time we passed by, he treated us to to***co, shared secrets of rolling paper, and talked about the new variety he planned to plant.

She became an incredibly important part of the movie about Yahidne.

Iryna was very welcoming to our crew. Every day without fail she greeted us with a beautifully set table.
We even had to ask her to cook less for us, because we were falling asleep during shooting.

We are happy to announce that we started shooting Basement 341, a feature length documentary and our biggest project to date.

The film is co-produced by Minimal Movie together with Paris-based and .tv France. Release is planned for 2024. The film will be a part of the Generation Ukraine program at ARTE.

Pensioners Mark, Marat, and Hryhorii live on the left bank of the river and keep dovecotes. Every day they take care of their birds near their home, and once a year, they meet with other dovecote owners at bird markets.

We shot the film during the full-scale war, but there are no references or visual markers of war in the movie (although the shooting took place in de-occupied Borodyanka). In the film, doves circle calmly over Kyiv, which has some symbolism. 🕊️
