BARINGO BASED POLITICAL ANALYST SHARES HIS VIEWS ON UPCOMING SENATORIAL BY ELECTIONS
The senatorial race initially attracted a significant number of aspirants, but as is always the case in politics, the field is gradually narrowing. As it stands, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries are shaping into a classic two-horse race between two youthful and energetic candidates: Tobole and Chemitei.
The race saw early interest from Hon. Tochim and Hon. Kiptoo. Tochim came in with energy but was soon consumed by the outdated politics of hate, bitterness, and witch-hunting, tactics that no longer resonate with the evolving voter base. His message lacked unity and vision, and he quickly faded from the frontline.
Hon. Kiptoo, on the other hand, has been underwhelming from the beginning. He comes across as a lazy candidate who seems more comfortable in Nairobi boardrooms than in the dusty campaign trails of Baringo. His absence during weekdays and limited visibility even during weekends have hurt his credibility. Politics is about presence, conviction, and sacrifice, not proxy leadership and armchair ambitions.
Then there was Kirukmet, a man whose political flame never truly lit. His campaign lacked energy, identity, and resonance with the electorate. Simply put, he is colourless and lacks the mojo to stir the soul of the Baringo voter.
Now, the political stage is dominated by two names, Chemitei and Tobole.
Looking at Chemitei, The Charismatic Underdog
He is young, charismatic, and carries himself with the stature of a potential leader. His eloquence and connection with a section of the youth and leaders, including the backing of almost 50% of the sitting MPs from Baringo, give him a fighting chance. He has the potential to rise fast and his appeal to the urban youth is unmistakable.
However, his campaign is marred by organisational lapses. It lacks logistical coordination, visible structure, and a dependable grassroots mobilization strategy. While he has the look and feel of a leader, he seems to be struggling with the practicalities of running a high-stakes political race. Politics, especially in Baringo, is not just about potential; it is about ex*****on.
Now Tobole, The Political Firebrand and Front Runner
His name is increasingly becoming synonymous with this race. A political firebrand and strategist, Tobole cut his political teeth at Kenyatta University, where he served as President of the student body. That experience, combined with his current ground game, is propelling him to the forefront of this contest.
Tobole’s campaign machinery appears well-oiled. He has a solid logistical structure, well-coordinated teams on the ground, and enjoys a strong financial backbone. His presence is felt in all corners of Baringo, from the highlands of Kabartonjo to the lowlands of Kisanana.
His slogan, "Toboa na Tobole", has caught on and is creating a powerful emotional connection with the people. It’s simple, authentic, and carries a promise of breakthrough a narrative that the young people of Baringo want.
With the by-election expected around October, we anticipate an escalation in campaigns, debates, and strategic alignments. The youth vote will play a crucial role. So will the silent majority, the mamas in the markets, the herders in the plains, and the farmers in the remote highlands.
In conclusion, while Chemitei may have the wind of goodwill, Tobole appears to have the wind and the wings. He is currently the man to watch, and unless something drastic shifts, this could be his race to lose.
