▍🥦水蓮：台灣特有蔬菜
高雄美濃是水蓮的重要產地。
農民在水中採起水蓮後，為初步清洗，在水面上甩動激起瀲灩水花，是當地特有的農家風情。
▍Kaohsiung’s Meinong District is a major producer of white water snowflake, a popular vegetable in Taiwan.
At harvest time, farmers pull the whole plant out of the water.
When swished across the surface of the water the plants produce swirling eddies, making for a unique local scene.

▍Alternatives to the crowds for the ＃NewYear
👀Watching #Sunrise #Bitoujiao
Just forget all the bad stuff from the past year. Go to Daan Forest Park and watch the classic film Vive L’Amour, “crying as you celebrate the New Year” along with the film’s leading lady Yang Kuei-mei. When you are finished weeping, go to a 24-hour eatery serving rice congee with side dishes and replenish your strength, then head off to Bitou Cape (Bitoujiao) in New Taipei City to watch the sun rise.
👀Striking Bells
Come to Tainan, which has the most temples of any city in Taiwan, to pray for good fortune. This year more than 200 temples and churches are all participating in the city’s activity to “strike bells to pray for good fortune,” with the sounds of bells welcoming in the New Year. After striking a bell, head off to Erliao to see the sun come up.

According to the Michelin Guide, the three star rating—the highest—is used for restaurants with exceptional cuisine that are worth a special journey to visit.
Taiwan has unique flavors that are worth a special journey, no matter how far: the local dishes of Taitung’s Slow Food movement.
