2000 年 12 月，英國首座 Blyth 離岸風場正式剪綵，是世界上第六座風場，但被稱為第一座真正意義上的離岸風場。自首座風場於 1991 年在丹麥完工後，在此之後尚有四座風場，不過規模較小且位於較避風的海域；Blyth 離岸風場水深更深、海域更開放、規模也更大，採用風機容量 2MW，總裝置容量達 4MW，當年年發電量可提供 3,000 個家戶用電。

In December 2000, the UK's first offshore wind farm, Blyth, was officially inaugurated. It was the sixth offshore wind farm in the world, but is often described as the first "truly offshore" wind farm. After the world's first offshore wind farm was completed in Denmark in 1991, four additional projects were built, but they were smaller in scale and located in more sheltered waters. By contrast, the Blyth Offshore Wind Farm was built in deeper water and at a larger scale.
