The passage of Hurricane Beryl was an unprecedented event, bringing a wave of uncertainty as countries in the Caribbean, such as Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica, experienced the full brunt of the storm.
Although Tobago was spared a direct hit, the sheer force of the Category 4 hurricane manifested in torrential rainfall and powerful winds, resulting in power outages, fallen trees, and other minor incidents. In light of predictions for a highly active hurricane season by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, reporter Joeshel Dann and cameraman Judon Jofield sought public opinion on the effectiveness of the island's response to Hurricane Beryl and its preparedness for the active hurricane season. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management issued a statement earlier today informing the public of the action plan for relief efforts post Hurricane Beryl.
Hurricane Beryl ravaged countries like St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Carriacou, Petit Martinique, and Jamaica. Some of these countries are relying on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief. Trinidad and Tobago is trying to assist.
To ensure the commencement and success of relief efforts to these countries, the Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard conducted aerial reconnaissance on July 2 to assess the extent of the damage to these islands. After observations, two vessels with supplies were deployed to Grenada from Port of Spain during the early hours of July 3. A third vessel was scheduled to depart for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Ministry of Health is recalling 114 batches of potassium chloride extended-release capsules.
This recall was issued by Glenmark Pharmaceauticals Inc. due to failed dissolution. These capsules are for the treatment of patients with low potassium. They are packaged in 100-count bottles. The failed dissolution of potassium chloride extended capsules may cause hyperkalemia or high potassium levels, which can cause a risk of irregular heartbeat leading to cardiac arrest.

The United Nations has urged for global support for countries like Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and other Caribbean islands impacted by the devastating Hurricane Beryl.
The Category 5 storm has resulted in at least six casualties and caused extensive damage to residences, infrastructure, and essential services, including power and communications.
The UN says it is deploying additional emergency teams to assist the existing agencies in the affected regions, although the difficult logistics due to widespread destruction and constrained access pose significant challenges.
Concerns have also been raised about Haiti's precarious situation, which was exacerbated by the hurricane and existing security issues. The UN is preparing to provide assistance promptly to these areas both during and after the storm.

As per the recent update shared by the PM with the Jamaican media, approximately 500 citizens have sought refuge in shelters around 3 PM today. The government's priority is to guarantee the well-being and comfort of these individuals in the shelters, ensuring that they are adequately taken care of during this challenging time.

Well, Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4 storm, is approaching Jamaica with devastating winds and heavy rainfall after causing significant damage in the southeast Caribbean.
VO
The storm, downgraded from Category 5, has already led to fatalities and widespread destruction in Grenada and northern Venezuela. Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared a major disaster area, closed airports, and enforced a curfew for public safety.

Beryl's early-season intensity highlights the impact of climate change on severe weather. As the storm moves westward, hurricane warnings are in effect for the Cayman Islands and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Jamaican officials are calling for global climate action and support for vulnerable regions as Beryl continues to pose significant threats
