If the concern was really centred on animals, these millions would be allocated towards annual subventions for rescue organisations and shelters, both for wildlife and companion animals. It could also be used to enhance law enforcement efforts with regard to animal cruelty and wildlife trafficking.

Clearly there was no consultation with animal welfare organisations on this expenditure and we hope concerned citizens are taking note, ahead of the next general election, as to which candidate/party is going to get your vote.

Important info about dogs entering the US...

Starting on August 1, all dogs entering the U.S. (including those that left the U.S. and are returning, and regardless of the country they are coming from) must be:
• healthy upon arrival
• at least 6 months of age
• microchipped
• accompanied by a CDC Dog Import Form receipt and required vaccination and veterinary documents.

Additional requirements may apply depending on where the dog has been in the last 6 months and whether or not the dog was vaccinated in the United States.

How can anyone resist those eyes... and ears! 😇😍

I CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE HAS ADOPTED (OR EVEN OFFERED TO FOSTER) TOFFEE YET.

Having spent almost the past 2 weeks with Toffee and my parents' house, I have grown so fond of him that I myself wish I could keep him (but I won't be able to).

He is such an easy dog to fall in love with. All he needs is someone to give him a chance!

Gentle, well-behaved, quiet (but with a very deep bark when he does), can be shy/skittish at times (but comes around eventually), courageous at the right moments, excellent when taken out—rides well in vehicle, walks well on leash, well-behaved in public spaces (indoor and outdoor), very good about meeting other people and dogs. He loves to lie on couches and cuddle with his human(s).

We have discovered that he does not seem to like men with long dreadlocks. He reacts to them by barking and becoming very defensive/protective.

He needs a loving, kind, gentle, patient and responsible owner . . . someone who will take the time to understand him and gain his trust. Once you do, you will have a lifetime of love from him. He is SUCH a devoted dog to his human(s).

He must be in a home where he is allowed inside and outside (securely fenced) and where he has a sofa or some soft elevated piece of furniture that he can curl up on to sleep..

When Garth told me a couple days ago that a police officer riding in a neighbourhood, shot and killed a dog who rushed him, I immediately felt sorry for the dog and mourned his demise.

When Camille told me tonight that the dog was in fact one of the pair that mauled our beloved Toro four years ago, I felt immense relief. That the dog is no longer able to terrorize people and other animals. That Toro finally got justice.

While I'm still concerned about the irresponsible people who continued to feed the stray instead of containing him in their yard, despite knowing the harm he caused, I would have never wanted it to end this way. Anyone who knows me knows that I would never harm an animal, regardless of what it did.

My heart is at peace now for our Torokins, whose life was cruelly taken from us. We will never forget you 🌈❣️

You know, the property tax revenue could have also been used to fund animal control efforts at the local government level. But I'm pretty sure no-one considers animal welfare to be a quality of life issue, for animals, as well as the humans who care about them.

It would be a refreshing change to have elected representatives think about more than just votes for once.

I'm pretty sure that every animal rescue group as well as citizens like me who are concerned about animal welfare would support such a novel idea. Plus, some of us would like to vote for a candidate that cares about more than just humans 🤷🏾‍♀️

Here at Animalia the Podcast, we are not in support of the breeding or import/sale of these dogs who suffer solely because of how they have been bred. They might be cute to you but it's torture to them.

If you Google 'cute dogs' you may be met with images of dogs with squishy faces and skin rolls - but behind these 'cute' photos is a sinister health issue 😮

Their extreme features cause many dogs to have abnormally narrow nostrils and windpipes, making every breath they take a struggle.

Did you know that along with the rescue/ rehabilitation and rehoming of stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats, and our AWN Primary School Education Program we operate a Low Income Spay/ Neuter program.

In 2023 the Animal Welfare Network (AWN) approved 511 subsidized spays/neuter surgeries at vet clinics across the country, as well as spaying 70 dogs for the Princess Project and 15 dogs for our Downtown Project (two programs that helped to treat, spay/ neuter and control unwanted litters of street and compound dogs) and we could not have done it without your help!

We know things are difficult right now, and there are so many in need of assistance, but, if you would like to help us continue the work we do, and contribute to stopping the unnecessary suffering of our fur covered companions, please consider donating to the Animal Welfare Network.

AWN does not charge for our services, so we rely on donations and our fundraising efforts to support projects/ programs, help pay for treatment/ boarding of our rescue cases, give a small stipend to our educators who teach children about caring for animals in schools across the country, and to subsidize surgeries for spays/ neuters as well as assisting owners who cannot pay for vet services.

Help us help them and make a difference to the lives of animals ❤️
