TTMS Declares Start of the 2025 Dry Season

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) officially announced the start of the 2025 Dry Season on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. This seasonal shift is marked by reduced atmospheric moisture, fewer rainfall events, and cooler nights.

The Dry Season follows a gradual transition from the wet season and is influenced by climatic factors such as the North Atlantic Sub-Tropical High Pressure cell and changes in wind patterns. While rainfall is reduced, occasional showers may occur due to mid-latitude systems and convergence bands.

The early months (January to March) are expected to be wetter and warmer than usual, with increased groundwater recharge and less vegetative stress. However, water pooling may raise mosquito breeding risks. As the season progresses (April to May), the likelihood of Saharan dust and bushfires increases, impacting air quality.

The TTMS advises the public to conserve water, avoid open burning, and monitor updates on the 2025 Dry Season via their website.
