Let's remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding our children and creating environments where they feel safe and valued.

Joke for children is death for Crapo" serves as a cautionary proverb, reminding us that what may seem harmless to some can have severe consequences for others. This wisdom rings especially true in the context of bullying.

👏CSEC & CAPE Regional Awards Ceremony👏

10 TT Students win at the 2022 CAPE & CSEC Regional Awards 🏆

Ten (10) Trinidad & Tobago students walked away with the regional awards for Most Outstanding Performances in the May/June 2022 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations in a virtual ceremony held on Thursday February 9, 2023. Our students copped four (4) awards in the Caribbean Secondary Entrance Examinations (CSEC) and six (6) awards in the CAPE category.

Today let’s get to know Dr. Latisha Nicholas and learn about her views on the gender disparity in the STEM fields and the importance of equality in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)!

Latisha is a Chemist/ Deputy Laboratory Manager in CARIRI’s Analytical Chemistry Department and she possesses a Doctorate in Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry & Peptide Synthesis. She decided to pursue this field because she thought it was interesting and it involved a few crossovers within the field such as synthesis and catalyst development.

Latisha believes that there is a gender disparity in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines and thinks that more opportunities should be available for females as they transition from education to the world of work.

She also suggests that it will be an advantage if greater options for research were made available to those pursuing science based careers. Latisha also thinks that even in the age of social media, young women have fewer role models to inspire their interest in these fields.

In her opinion, Latisha believes that if focus is placed on achieving gender equality by removing the associated constraints and barriers, the objectives of the SDGs will surely be met.

On the Scoville Scale, the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Chilli Pepper scores at 1.2 million Scoville heat units (as opposed to jalapenos, which register at roughly 5,000 units). In 2012, it held the title of the world's spiciest pepper. The Carolina Reaper, which measured 2.2 million Scoville heat units, deposed it in late 2013.
