Total Exellium by Phil Meatchem/Istanbuldogz for Punch BBDO Istanbul

Phil Meatchem PUNCH BBDO Total Derya Tuzluca

Phil Meatchem Bio: "l've been painting and drawing for as long as l can remember - it's something very near and dear to me. l developed a natural skill for art from a very young age and l became intrigued with all things art. Composition, design, light and shade, colour, technique and style are just a few of the things l wanted and needed to understand.

When l was nine years old my grandma took me to see Disney's animated classic ''The Jungle Book''. l loved the character design and the beautifully hand painted settings and immediately became obsessed with anything Disney. l decided then and there that l wanted to become an animator. By the time l was fifteen l had left school and landed a full time job in a small animation studio in Sydney that produced animated commercials for television. l was basically self-taught and very passionate about my craft. l won my first award for animation when l was eighteen.

As the years went on, the company expanded and l became a director, my specialty being a combination of live action and animation. This was my profession for nearly forty years, winning various awards along the way, most notably a Clio award, a Mobius and Director of the Year.

Throughout my career my passion for painting took a backseat. But recently, the urge to paint became too overwhelming and l eventually gave in to it."

Meet our director Toby Dye, inventive and bold.

Toby Dye

Toby Dye Bio: Toby started his career in documentary, creating critically lauded films for renowned British broadcasters Channel 4 and the BBC, going on to win the UK’s Grierson Award for his starkly original crime film ‘Bodysnatchers of New York’.

A constant innovator, some of Toby’s most exciting work is when he pushes documentary into unexpected territory, from his D&AD winning music video ‘Paradise Circus’ for Massive Attack to trailblazing campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands. His boldly progressive social experiment for Heineken, ‘Worlds Apart’, explored the tensions of our divisive socio-political landscape. With over 50 million views, it sparked a global conversation with heated commentary everywhere from the Washington Post to Good Morning America, Time and The Guardian.

Just as unconventional is his approach to drama. For sci-fi short ‘Phobos’, conceived with Ridley Scott, Toby put his A-list cast of Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterstone, Danny McBride and Billy Krudup, through genuine, emotionally gruelling ‘fear tests’ (basically torturing his cast for real on camera), with the improvised results forming the film’s darkly compelling narrative.

Recently Toby has ventured into the gallery space with his 360-degree film installation, The Corridor, a dazzling ambitious blend of invisibly looping visuals and narrative. The centrepiece for hit art exhibition “Daydreaming with…Stanley Kubrick”, at London’s Somerset House, it has subsequently been exhibited around the World. Described by The Daily Telegraph as “At once mind boggling, funny and mildly disturbing.” it is a fitting summation for the best of Dye’s work.
