On October 6, 2024, Palestinian journalist Hasan ‘Abdel Rahim Hamad was apparently targeted by Israeli soldiers, who killed him. This brings the total number of Palestinian journalists slain to 176, which experts claim to be war crimes.
The last video he uploaded was only posted 30 minutes before he was targeted. He had spent the previous night voice-recording and releasing films broadcasting the most recent occurrences in Jabalia.
The 19-year-old Hamad was covering and filming the Israeli bombardment and ground invasion on the Jabalia refugee camp from his home. He worked for Media Town Company and collaborated with many media organizations.

The civil war in Syria is far from over. Ongoing conflict makes it unsafe for many to return. Peace and security are still distant dreams for countless Syrians.

Syria’s infrastructure is shattered. Returnees struggle without access to essential services like healthcare and education. Rebuilding lives becomes a distant hope.

Imagine returning home only to find it’s no longer yours. Many Syrians face legal barriers and property disputes that strip them of their homes and dignity.

With a collapsed economy, unemployment rates soar. Returnees find themselves trapped in poverty, unable to rebuild their lives in a devastated homeland.

Returning to Syria doesn’t guarantee safety. Many face arbitrary detention and forced conscription, with little access to justice. They’re trapped between fear and uncertainty.

It’s time to understand the plight of Syrian immigrants. Racism and hostility only add to their suffering. Let’s build a world where they feel safe, understood, and supported.
