In 2021, Argentine farmer Juan de Dios Sota made a stunning discovery while tending his field near Rincón de Valle: four massive Glyptodon armored shells, buried for over 10,000 years. These prehistoric creatures, similar to giant armadillos, roamed the Earth during the last Ice Age (the Pleistocene epoch). The rare find of multiple armored shells together suggests this site may have been a significant gathering place for these ancient giants.
The Glyptodons’ final resting place likely resulted from a sudden, catastrophic event—perhaps a rapid climate shift, severe flooding, or sedimentary entrapment (mud burial)—that buried them beneath layers of sediment. The exceptional state of preservation of these armored shells indicates they were covered quickly, protecting them from erosion and decay. This extraordinary discovery not only reveals new insights into the lives of these massive creatures but also offers a powerful glimpse into the ancient world they inhabited, shaped by the same unforgiving forces of nature.

This dog's name was Gunner. My uncle brought him back from WW2. He was raised and slept under my uncle's anti- aircraft gun. The gun crew shared their
rations to feed him. By the time he was 18 months old, my uncle said he would stand up and look at the sky. If he laid back down they knew all was ok. If he growled
and put his hackles up they got at the ready. He knew the sound of the German aircraft and my uncle said he
never got it wrong. He said Gunner was better than any early warning system. I'm probably the only one left in the family that knows that story now, so I thought I'd tell it before it's lost forever, like many stories must be from that time. Thanks for reading it

Bonobo protecting baby mongoose is one of the winners of an international photo contest
By Suzana Camargo
- Gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees, bonobos and humans are the so-called great apes. The first four share 98% of human DNA, meaning they are our closest biological relatives on the planet. It is no surprise then that they have behaviors so similar to ours and that they move us so much.
- This is the case of the snapshot taken by renowned photojournalist Christian Ziegler, who took this beautiful image above, of a bonobo with a baby mongoose in its arms, near Salonga National Park, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Looking into the distance, the bonobo appears to be caring for the small rodent as if it were its own offspring. The photo was one of the winners in the “Animal Portrait” category of the international nature photography competition Nature inFocus, which revealed the 2023 winners this week. According to Ziegler, the bonobo then released the baby without harming it. This type of behavior is rarely documented.

Photographer Jess Isden saw this spider web in the horns of gemsbok. He writes "At first I thought the gemsbok must have walked through the web, but on closer inspection, it was clear that it was much more intricate than that, and there were living spiders in the webs too." He noticed the webs on several animals lasting several days, saying "they could have easily wiped the webs off their face and horns, yet seem to tolerate it."

King cobras (Ophiophagus hannah) are among the most venomous snakes in the world. Their venom is a potent neurotoxin, meaning it primarily affects the nervous system. While they are capable of delivering a large amount of venom in a single bite, they typically reserve it for hunting prey, such as other snakes, including even other venomous species. Here are key aspects of their venom:

The Megalodon is alive! 🦈
At the beginning of the 20th century, German fishermen aboard the ship Seesturm made an extraordinary discovery in the North Sea: a live Megalodon shark, a creature believed to have been extinct for millions of years. As the massive shadow loomed over their boat, the fishermen faced a tremendous challenge.
Using makeshift harpoons and strong ropes, they engaged in a fierce battle against the ancient behemoth. Despite all odds, they managed to subdue the Megalodon and tow it back to port, where its story spread like wildfire. The scientific community, initially skeptical, was astounded by the living fossil.
The crew of the Seesturm, once just ordinary fishermen, became local legends.
Crowds gathered to witness the awe-inspiring Megalodon, and the fishermen gained fame and fortune.
Its encounter with the prehistoric giant echoed through time, serving as a testament to the unexpected wonders lurking beneath the vast and mysterious sea.

In the Middle Ages, it was common for knights to put chastity belts on their wives before going into battle.
The purpose of this practice was to ensure the fidelity of women while their husbands were away; this could last for months or even years, as only they had the key to remove the belt.
If you’re wondering how women cleaned themselves during this period, the answer is simple: they didn’t. Personal hygiene was almost non-existent back then, even on their wedding day. In fact, the bouquets of flowers carried by brides seemed to be an attempt to mask body odor, especially that coming from their private parts.

The Cursed Island of Gaiola, located off the coast of Naples, is shrouded in legend and considered one of Italy's most haunted places due to a series of mysterious deaths and misfortunes that have befallen its owners. Despite its scenic beauty and historical significance, the island’s dark reputation has deterred many from visiting or residing there. The island has a history dating back to ancient Roman times, originally founded as a luxurious retreat for the elite, with ruins from its opulent past still visible today.
