1001Tracklists Releases ‘A State Of Dance Music’ 2022 Report

1001Tracklists is back with their annual ‘A State of Dance Music’ report, which ranks the top elements in a multitude of electronic music categories for their performance last year – including top tracks, artists, and most-streamed sets.

Music is in everyone’s lives. Whether it’s going to and from work/school, having a night out, or simply accompanying one’s chores at home, there’s no doubt that music constantly has a presence in one way or another. Dance music is one of the genres with the largest audience these days, and this report is here to prove it. The platform, self-described as ‘the world’s leading DJ tracklist database’, works all year round to give its users the most extensive list of songs, sets, and playlists possible, covering festival sets faster than anyone out there. If you’ve been to a show and want to know the name of a song, it’s probably up in 1001Tracklists.

We’ve taken a look at the new report and condensed some of the most appealing data points worth sharing. Read on to learn more about some of the most significant dance music topics of last year.

1001Tracklists’ A State Of Dance Music 2022 Report: Key Factors

User Count
The number of people using the site’s services throughout the year accrued to over 7 million, and the total site visits struck at just shy of 65 million.

Top Genres
The most DJ supported tracks last year belong to Tech House (21%), followed by Dance (19%), and Trance and Bass House (11% each).

Top 10 Tracks
The most played tracks were ACRAZE’s ‘Do It To It’ in 1st place, James Hype & Miggy Dela Rosa’s ‘Ferrari’ in 2nd place, and Mau P’s ‘Drugs From Amsterdam’ in 3rd place.

Top 10 Labels
Labelswise, Spinnin’ Records takes the gold, Musical Freedom Records the silver, and Revealed Recordings gets the bronze. (edited)

The hottest feature of 1001Tracklists ranked as follows: In 1st place, we have Martin Garrix @ Mainstage, Ultra Music Festival Miami, with 59k views, behind him we have Fred again.. @ Boiler Room London, with 55.8k views, and behind him, we have Hardwell @ Mainstage, Ultra Music Festival Miami, with 41.4k views.

Top 10 Radioshows
The most streamed radioshows on the platform were Tiësto’s Club Life with 3.9k views per episode, followed by 1001Tracklists’ own Exclusive Mix with 2.8k views per episode, and after them, there’s Oliver Heldens’ Heldeep Radio and Armin van Buuren and Ruben de Ronde’s A State Of Trance with 2.6k views per episode each.

Top 10 Producers
The podium is occupied by David Guetta in 1st place, Vintage Culture in 2nd place, and Kryder in 3rd place.

Skrillex to perform in Thailand this weekend

Skrillex has already released two singles, 'Rumble' and 'Way Back', this year

Skrillex has been confirmed to return to Thailand this Saturday (January 20) at the ONYX in Bangkok.

Event promoter RETOX SESSIONS announced the event yesterday (January 15). In an Instagram post, the promoters shared that audiences can expect “loads of surprises and new music.”

Since the event’s announcement, a Facebook event page has been set-up for details on ticket prices and other important information. As of press time, no further announcements have been made. This is not the DJ’s first time in the country. In the past, Skrillex has performed at Bangkok’s 808 Festival in 2018 alongside Zedd and Calvin Harris.

Earlier this month, Skrillex released two new collaborations including ‘Rumble’ featuring Fred Again.. and Flowdan as well as ‘Way Back’ with PinkPantheress and Trippie Redd. The singles are supposedly a peek into an upcoming double album slated for release this year.

In May 2022, the artist confirmed that he was working on at least two albums via an Instagram post about his withdrawal from the Tampa Sunset and Detroit Movement festivals.

Last weekend, Skrillex, along with Fred again.. and Four Tet played a series of surprise shows in various venues in London. The trio also premiered songs featuring Missy Elliot and Beam during the pop up shows.

Bobby Brown, Pharrell Williams to Be Awarded at 2023 Urban One Honors

egendary singer Bobby Brown and producer/artist Pharrell Williams are among the 2023 Urban One Honors nominees.

Brown, a founding member of New Edition and a multi-platinum solo superstar, will receive the first-ever Phoenix Award for “his enduring spirit to rise despite great loss and hardship.”

A&E documented Brown’s decades-long career, emphasizing his personal and professional highs and lows, in Biography: Bobby Brown, a two-part feature film that debuted last spring.

Brown will rejoin his New Edition bandmates on the Legacy Tour, kicking off March 9, at Colonial Life Arena, in Columbia, South Carolina. Their upcoming tour follows 2022’s Culture Tour, which included special guests Charlie Wilson and Jodeci.

Pharrell will receive the Music Innovation Honor.

As one half of The Neptunes, Pharrell has extensive songwriting and production credits working with artists from all genres, mainly R&B, such as SWV, Total, Kelis, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Ray J and Mariah Carey, among others.

Pharrell branched off as a solo act, making the biggest splash in 2014 with his chart-topping hit “Happy” and its award-winning parent album Girl.

Staying current, Pharrell has recently collaborated behind the board with Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Lucky Daye, Snoh Aalegra, Pusha T and Omar Apollo, to name a few.

Elsewhere in the awards ceremony, Congresswoman Maxine Waters will be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Honor, while L.L. Cool J will be presented with the Entertainment Icon Honor.

Tamela and David Mann will take home the Inspirational Impact Honor. Tamela spoke to Rated R&B about her last album, Overcomer, in August 2021.

T.I., Kool Moe Dee, Marvin Sapp, Keke Wyatt, Monie Love, Doug E. Fresh and DJ Spinderella are set to give musical performances.

Popular duo Chainsmokers and U.S vocalist, Cheyenne Giles release their new contemporary house song ‘Make Me Feel‘ days after the new year. A upbeat tune that keeps energy for its short play time and provides a new flavor to their loyal fans. The duo originally gained traction for their 2016-2017 popular tracks ‘Closer‘ and ‘Something Just Like This‘. Both tracks are well over a billion streams on multiple streaming platforms.

‘Make Me Feel’ is bringing a new groove and a higher BPM than The Chainsmokers fans are use too. The track is mainly made up a funky like bass synth that changes forms through out each section and Cheyenne’s vocals. The two combine to build and release energy throughout making a perfect and danceable rhythm. Every sound fits perfectly in this new atmosphere the duo is creating in their new production.

Ledisi Releases New Song ‘I Need to Know’

Grammy-winning singer Ledisi has returned with “I Need To Know,” a new song she co-wrote with her longtime collaborator Rex Rideout.

The elegantly produced track addresses Ledisi’s annoyance about a partner who refuses to communicate when there is an issue in their relationship.

“You keep messing with my mind / Telling me nothing is wrong with us / When your actions show something real different / It’s like you’re changing up / I don’t know what to do / So I’m asking you,” she sings with pained phrasing.

“I Need To Know” is Ledisi’s first new solo music since releasing 2021’s Ledisi Sings Nina, a tribute to Nina Simone that featured her rendition of songs made famous by the High Priestess of Soul.

Ledisi Sings Nina debuted at No. 11 on Billboard’s Traditional Jazz Album chart. It was later nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022.

Before that, Ledisi issued Ledisi Live at the Troubadour in April 2021. The 11-song project featured Ledisi moving briskly through some of her most beloved songs, along with music from her then-freshly released album The Wild Card.

Released under her Listen Back imprint in association with BMG, The Wild Card arrived Aug. 28, 2020. It was led by “Anything For You,” a heartwarming ballad she co-produced with Rideout.

In October 2020, “Anything For You” rose to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, becoming her first song to reach the summit. It remained atop for two-consecutive weeks.

That wasn’t the only first for Ledisi. “Anything For You” won Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 63rd Grammy Awards, making it her first prize.

“Same Love,” The Wild Card‘s second radio single, peaked at No. 23 on the Adult R&B Airplay the week that ended April 3, 2021.

Ledisi paired “Same Love” with a music video directed by her husband and photographer, Ron T. Young.

The Wild Card was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020.

Last February, Robert Glasper recruited Ledisi for his Grammy-nominated album Black Radio III for “It Don’t Matter,” which also features Gregory Porter.

Music aside, Ledisi starred as Queen of Gospel Mahalia Jackson in the Denise Dowse-directed Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story, available on Hulu.

Ledisi is set to embark on the Soul II Soul Tour, a co-headlining venture with Kem. It kicks off on Feb. 3 and runs through May 12. Musiq Soulchild will support the tour as a special guest.

Jeff Beck’s Death Mourned by Gene Simmons, Jimmy Page, Paul Stanley & More: ‘The Guitarists’ Guitarist!’

Jeff Beck died Tuesday (Jan. 10) at age 78, and his peers and fellow musicians have flocked to social media to remember him.

“No one played guitar like Jeff,” Gene Simmons tweeted before urging his followers to “Please get ahold of the first two Jeff Beck Group albums and behold greatness.”

Former teen idol Paul Young — known in the U.K. for ’80s hits like “Every Time You Go Away” and “Everything Must Change” — added his own tribute to Beck’s memory, tweeting, “Devastated to hear of the sudden and tragic death of legendary guitarist Jeff Beck. He was loved by everyone in the know; the guitarists guitarist! My condolences to his family & friends. RIP.”

Simmons’ KISS bandmate Paul Stanley also memorialized his friend, writing, “WOW. What awful news. Jeff Beck, one of the all time guitar masters has died. From the Yard Birds to The Jeff Beck Group on, he blazed a trail impossible to follow. Play on now and forever. .”

Other reactions poured into Twitter from the likes of Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath and Dave Davies of The Kinks to Genesis’ Steve Hackett and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, the latter of whom described Beck as “the six-stringed Warrior” who had the ability to “channel music from the ethereal.”

Over the course of his life, the British musician won eight Grammys out of 17 total nominations and was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also released 11 solo albums as well as studio sets with the Jeff Beck Group, the Yardbirds and the short-lived Beck, Bogert & Appice. His last and most recent LP was 18, a collaborative full-length with Johnny Depp in July.

Gordy Harmon, The Whispers Founding Member, Dies at 79

Gordy Harmon, a founding member of the beloved R&B group The Whispers, died on Thursday (Jan. 5). He was 79 years old.

The news of his death was initially reported by ABC7, who noted that the soul musician died peacefully in his sleep, and that his family believes he died of natural causes and had no serious illnesses.

Harmon founded The Whispers in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles with twin brothers Wallace and Walter Scott, Marcus Hutson and Nicholas Caldwell in 1964.

During Harmon’s time in the group, The Whispers took over the R&B world with albums like Life and Breath, as well as 1972’s The Whispers’ Love Story, which climbed up to No. 34 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and featured Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charting singles “Can’t Help But Love You” (No. 35), “I Only Meant to Wet My Feet” (No. 27), “Your Love Is So Doggone Good” (No. 19) and “There’s a Love for Everyone” (No. 31).

Unfortunately, Harmon’s time in The Whispers was cut short in 1973, when he suffered a larynx injury after a driving accident, according to the Los Angeles Sentinel. He was replace by Leaveil Degree.

Tiesto – Lay Low

After another incredible year for the living legend, Tiesto has just released his first track of 2023. Incorporating yet another catchy tune, his new track called ‘Lay Low’ sounds like it will be another festival favorite.

Since releasing his internationally renowned track ‘The Business’ back in 2020, the deep house sounds have took over his releases. his recent club favorites including ‘0:35’ with Tate McRae feature his new iconic sound and it is no different for his new track ‘Lay Low’ but somehow Tiesto manages to always make it sound fresh. The new track will mark the return of the king to his Musical Freedom label under Spinnin’ Records.

After ringing in the new year at Zouk Nightclub in Las Vegas, you can definitely expect 2023 to be yet another fun filled year for Tiesto in Las Vegas and many major festivals across the world.
