Originally from Newcastle UK, Red Drum has been collecting records, DJing and generally geeking out over music for most of three decades. His love of dance music began in around '92 with early Hardcore and Jungle, with his formative gigs including Newcastle’s first regular Drum & Bass night, Steppaz 1. He studied Music Technology at Newcastle College in the late 90’s. Throughout the 00’s Pete beca
me known for playing Hard Energy and Acid Techno at various squat raves and free parties around the North, including a memorable - definitely illegal - rave inside Newcastle’s iconic Tyne Bridge. He also found time to run his own night Cause & Effect for the best part of the decade while producing and engineering music for various Hard Energy labels such as Shock Records, Aztec, 12 Inch Thumpers, amongst others. He’s supported a wide range of artists from Krafty Kuts and Utah Saints to acid techno pioneers like D.A.V.E The Drummer and Chris Liberator, to hardcore techno legends such as Lenny Dee, The DJ Producer and DJ Smurf, and most of the big names in hard house; Lab 4, Andy Whitby, K90, Paul Maddox, Proteus, Paul Glazby, the list goes on…
Pete first dipped his feet into the Thai music scene on NYE 2018, playing at Synergy. He then began DJing at some of the many bar, poolside and rooftop parties happening around Chiang Mai, including his own AntiGrav events and later, the awesome Jai Thep festival. His sets these days range from electro and breaks through indie dance to acid house and techno, while his trademark sound reflects his other musical passion, building synthesizers, bringing a particular focus on oldskool electronic and acid sounds, usually with a very funky or energetic groove. With Red Drum’s live modular/hardware performances expect machine-driven, techno-funkiness marked with elastic acid, shattered breakbeats, energetic synth riffs and dubbed-up wobbly basslines, with plenty of ad-libbing and unpredictability to boot. Perhaps best described as breaks, electro and acid house, with big nods to the oldskool but with a modern production edge.
