AN ELDERLY HOMELESS WOMAN BEGGED ME TO DRIVE HER TO CHURCH—THREE DAYS LATER, SHE KNOCKED ON MY DOOR IN A LAVISH GUCCI COAT
I’m a single mom, just trying to make ends meet. Last Saturday, I had to take my six-year-old son with me to Walmart to pick up some essentials.
As we reached our car, an elderly woman approached us. She looked homeless—her coat was ragged, her hair unkempt, and her hands were dirty. But her eyes… her eyes were kind.
"Please," she said, her voice trembling, "can you drive me to St. Mary’s Church? I need to get there."
It was a 20-minute drive, and gas wasn’t cheap. But then I saw the tears welling up in her eyes. "Please," she whispered.
Something inside me cracked. I sighed. "Alright, get in."
The gratitude in her expression was almost overwhelming. She kept thanking me over and over during the ride, but I told her it was no big deal. In my mind, I figured she just needed to pray or find shelter.
Driving home, my son smiled. "Mom, you did the right thing. I’m glad I have such a kind mommy." That alone made the trip worth it. Money was tight, and I saved every penny after my ex walked out on us when my son was two, but this… this felt right.
I thought that was the end of it. I was wrong.
Three days later, at 7 p.m., a knock at the door startled me. When I opened it, I gasped, covering my mouth.
The woman standing there was undeniably the same one I had picked up three days ago—but she looked completely different. She was clean, well-groomed, and wrapped in a brand-new Gucci coat—the kind I’d only ever seen in magazines.
"What… what’s going on?" I stammered.⬇️
