President Salva Kiir, Vice President James Wani, and several other government officials visited the bereaved Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, today to offer their condolences following the passing of his father, Sultan Mel Kuol Akol.
The delegation gathered at Dr. Bol Melโs residence, where they extended their sympathies and comfort to him and his family during this difficult time. Sultan Mel Kuol Akol, a respected figure in the community, was remembered for his contributions to peace and development, as well as his commitment to South Sudanโs cultural heritage.

Kenyan lawyer and political activist David Morara Kebaso has named his son Garang De Mabior Morara, in honor of the late leader Dr. John Garang De Mabior.
Garang, who spent significant time in Kenya as a refugee during the liberation period, is a well-known figure among Kenyans.
In the 2000s, it was common for Kenyans to refer to South Sudanese as "Garang."
