[ Lake Jau Aka kol de koch ] ...
Jau is a lake located in the northern part of South Sudan, in the Ruweng Administrative Area, Jau district, Panyang locality. Jau is characterized by its geographical and historical location, which connects several southern and northern communities, and it is a region belonging to the Aniek Panyang tribe, the indigenous people of the area.
The name "Jau" is a dialect of the Jieng Ruweng language and means "vast" or "wide" or "large", describing the region as having a large or vast area.
The roots of Jau and Aniek stretch back centuries, where the region witnessed fierce battles and sacrificed the lives of legends, leaders, and generations during periods of conflict and occupation. However, thanks to the resilience of brave generations, all attempts at occupation failed. Therefore, there is a martyrs' area named "Anak Jang" meaning "massacre" in Arabic, commemorating the heroic resistance that was carried out by the entire generation of Aniek, who sacrificed themselves in defense of their land and property.
Jau is bordered to the north by the Nuba Mountains tribes, Angola, and Teri, and to the south by the Dair da Aru clan . Jau is a strategic region connecting North Sudan to South Sudan in terms of trade and tourism. In addition, Jau receives displaced people in its centers and camps, such as Eida and then to Jamjang.
Jau is a fertile agricultural area, where crops are grown and various plants and animals are found. It is also a pastoral area for livestock during the summer and winter seasons, where herders come to Lake Jau after the drying up of the Biem Dalong and Angam Pida reservoirs and other khors like Ken'gak and Dot'Amam. This is because Lake Jau retains its water throughout the year.
