Togo could leave ECOWAS to join the Sahel States Alliance (AES).

Togo does not rule out joining the Sahel States Alliance (AES), the Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs has said.

"It is the decision of the President of the Republic," said Minister Robert Dussey when the question of joining the AES was put to him, judging for his part that "it is not impossible."

"Ask the Togolese people if Togo wants to join the AES, you will see their answer, I would say that they will say yes," he added via Jeune Afrique.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has skipped questioning for the second day in a row after his dramatic arrest on Wednesday. According to the Foreign Minister Timothy Kabba, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has officially released a statement today concerning the allegations made against Ambassador Alimamy Hassan Bangura in Guinea. The Minister stated that the Ambassador was not in the vehicle that was arrested due to suspicions of drugs and money. He confirmed that the vehicle was registered under the Ambassador's name but was not the vehicle the Ambassador himself used.

The Minister also confirmed that the Ambassador is not currently under arrest and is performing his normal duties while the investigation is ongoing. Additionally, he confirmed that the two people inside the vehicle were arrested.

Police have installed CCTV cameras in strategic locations in Freetown.

In a concerted effort to enhance security and public safety, the city of Freetown has initiated the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in strategic locations throughout the urban area. This project aims to address rising concerns about crime and disorder by providing real-time surveillance and monitoring capabilities.

The selected locations for the installation include key public spaces, high-traffic areas, and crime-prone neighbourhoods. The cameras will facilitate round-the-clock monitoring, offering law enforcement agencies valuable assistance in crime detection and prevention. Furthermore, the data gathered from these surveillance systems will serve as crucial evidence in investigations, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for all residents and visitors of Freetown.

The installation of CCTV cameras is part of a broader commitment to modernizing the city’s security infrastructure and fostering a sense of safety within the community. Local authorities believe that increased surveillance will not only deter potential criminal activities but also promote a sense of accountability among citizens.

As this initiative progresses, the city remains dedicated to continually assessing the impact of the CCTV network on public safety and making necessary adjustments to ensure its effectiveness. Israel's cabinet is due to be met this morning to approve a ceasefire and hostage release deal with Hamas in Gaza.

The agreement has raised hopes of an end to fifteen months of war.

An initial six-week truce is expected to begin on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the fighting continues. Gaza's civil defence agency says at least 20 Palestinians have been killed since the deal was announced on Wednesday evening.

Hamas attacked southern Israel on 7 October 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 back to Gaza as hostages.

The attack triggered a massive Israeli offensive on Gaza, during which more than 46,000 Palestinians were killed, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

Yoon Suk Yeol has become South Korea's first sitting president to be arrested after investigators scaled barricades and cut through barbed wire to take him into custody.

Yoon, 64, is being investigated on charges of insurrection for a failed martial law order on 3 December that plunged the country into turmoil.

He has also been impeached by parliament and suspended - but will only be removed from office if the Constitutional Court upholds the impeachment.

However, Yoon's dramatic arrest on Wednesday brings to an end a weeks-long standoff between investigators and his presidential security team.

Investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) failed to arrest him on 3 January after being locked in a six-hour stand-off with his security detail.

But just before dawn on Wednesday, a much larger team of investigators and police arrived at his residence in central Seoul, armed with ladders to climb over buses blocking its entrance and bolt cutters to remove barbed wire.

Dr Sylvia Olainka Blyden and Chief Minister Sengeh continue to heat up.🔥

Former Minister of Social Welfare in the Ernest Bai Koroma administration, Sylvia Blyden, has revealed that the current Chief Minister, David Sengeh, pleaded with the former president for a job in 2015.

This was to respond to Chief Minister Dr David sengeh calling the All People's Congress unprogressive upon his interview on AYV TV.

This jaw-dropping revelation was made public by Blyden on a Facebook post with a picture of Sengeh and the former president in New York in 2015.

The former minister said she was the one who lobbied the former president to give an audience to Sengeh, who at the time wanted a job.

“At the time, Sengeh was begging APC for a job,” Blyden said. She said the act, at the time, presupposed that Sengeh was not loyal to the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) as he was not among those criticising the then-ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party.
