“Placial” signals our connection, as well as our preoccupation, with places. It draws attention to how we relate to places in order to position ourselves in the world. Like “spatial”, which encapsulates the characteristics of space, “placial” unfolds place-bound qualities and place-based experiences. It is as much about our rootedness and embeddedness in places as it is about their deterritorialization and dematerialization.

Recent developments in machine vision, algorithms, and artificial intelligence have re energized debates about the interplay between visualization, data, and the visual. Understanding notions of data, their visual forms, the processes of visualizing data, and not least the reconsideration of historical images and imaging as data visualizations has become relevant. Among many other topics we encourage proposals that address: Historical and Contemporary Connections between Photography-Related Apparatuses and Data; Operational Aspects of Data Visualization; Social Impact and Data Visualization; Data as Art; Data-centrism of Science, Politics and Art; Natural Sciences and Data Visualization.
