NCTM 2023 was held in Washington D.C., where we held a soft launch of our new think! Mathematics series for the U.S.

Our consultant, Dr Yeap Ban Har, shared about bar models, journal writing and problem solving, to a packed audience eager to learn innovative and effective ways of conducting Math lessons.

This morning, I did a session on word problems amd another one on journal writing - there is a free, self-directed, online course for those interested to pursue this further (see featured post on top of this page for the details).

The class decided to try

1/5 of the remaining money
(not so easy to show on diagram)

1/4 of the remaining money
then 1/2 the remaining money

and 1/8 of the remaining money
(easy to show but computation is a little messy)

3/8 was decided to lead to a simple computation
(the model for this is shown in photograph)

4/7 of the remaining money can be given to challenge advanced learners.

Anyone got a solution for the case of 4/7?
