Over the weekend, we were at for the launch of Movements For Health together with and other partners like Green Nudge, Beyond Social Services, Hatch, Bold At Work, 3Pumpkins and alongside other agencies like The Majurity Trust, Tote Board Silver Generation Office, etc. Had a chance to host a simple fireside chat with Prof Reshma and Brian Richmond on which is a concern when it comes to . 🌟 Meet Shereen and C.T.! 🌟

These incredible women have dedicated their lives to caring for the community cats in Boon Lay. Shereen, inspired by her mother’s love for animals, finds joy and purpose in feeding and cleaning up after the cats, ensuring harmony in our neighbourhood. C.T. believes education is key to better care for our feline friends and hopes to increase awareness and education amongst residents on the care for community cats. Together with other cat caretakers, they form a strong support network, making a significant impact through their compassion and teamwork. 🐱💖

In the heart of Yuhua Zone 3, a vibrant community of seniors gather without fail on the last Saturday of every month to do qigong. The qigong is led by a few trusty grassroots leaders, including the last senior whom we featured, Jennifer. When we ask the seniors why they choose to do qigong, most of them have the same answer - it keeps them healthy. 😊

These seniors, each with their own unique life stories, find solace and camaraderie in the shared experience of the qigong class. You can tell just by looking at their faces as they focus on each of their body movement. Beyond the physical benefits, the qigong class serves as a gentle reminder that age is merely a number, and the spirit can remain forever young. Attending a qigong class gives them a sense of purpose and belonging as they are able to connect with other seniors.

Interested to give this a try? Just come down and they will welcome you with open arms!

在裕华**居委会第**三区，每个月的最后一个星期六，充满活力的老年人都会聚集在一起练习气功。气功由几位值得信赖的基层领导人领导，其中包括我们最近介绍的Jennifer。当我们问老年人为什么选择练气功时，大多数人的答案都是一样的——气功可以保持健康。

这些老人都有自己独特的人生故事，他们在气功课的共同经历中找到了安慰和友情。你只要看他们面部表情就可以知道，他们多专注于每一个身体动作。除了对身心健康的好处之外，气功课程提醒我们：年龄只是一个数字，精神可以永远年轻。参加气功课程给了他们一种使命感和归属感，因为他们能够与其他老年人建立联系。

Jennifer is a volunteer with Yuhua Loving Hearts Active Ageing Centre. Every Monday and Friday, she’ll be seen at the 318A pavilion teaching a group of seniors qigong. The group goes as big as 50-70 seniors for every session. You might even see some young kids in these sessions! 🤭

Jennifer started doing qigong as she enjoys doing sports immensely. She believes deeply in what qigong can do for the body and mind and has decided to bring to the community she lives in at the nudging of her Member of Parliament, Yu-Foo Yee Shoon.

Jennifer is a familiar face that the seniors trust immensely. 😊 She is always open to seniors coming down to join their morning qigong. “I’m always happy to see my fellow members, it makes me happy to know that they are healthy and doing well. It doesn’t matter if they are sitting down, it’s more important that they come out, interact with one another and move a little.” is the reason that has kept Jennifer going.

Jennifer 是裕华爱心活跃乐龄站的一名志愿者。每周一、周五，她都会在318A组屋亭教一群年长人士气功。每场课程的人数最多为 五十至七十名年长人士。你甚至可能会在这些课程中看到一些年幼的孩子！

因为她非常喜欢运动，Jennifer打算开始练习气功，。她深信气功对身心的好处，并决定在国会议员, 符喜泉,的推动下将气功带入她所居住的社区。

Jennifer是一张熟悉的面孔，年长人士们都非常信任她。她总是欢迎老年人来参加他们的早间气功。 “我总是很高兴见到我的队友，知道他们健康且表现良好让我很高兴。他们是否坐下并不重要，更重要的是他们站出来，彼此互动并稍微活动一下。”这是让詹妮弗继续前进的原因。

Located at 318 Jurong East Street 31, you will find a hidden gem tucked away in your neighbourhood. At this coffeeshop, you will be able to find a wide variety of healthy food, and guess what? They are all under $10! Not only are they healthy and affordable, they are all mouth-watering! 🤤

Here are some snippets of our favourite dishes at each stall! Jumi's Kitchen at 318 Jurong East St 31 has amazing malay dishes and they even have healthier picks such as Mee Soto and Soto Ayam. If you are craving for Japanese and Korean Cuisine, Hao Wang stall will satisfy your cravings with their delicious dishes! Besides that, there is Gan En stall which sells your tasty Ban Mian Noodles (& a wide variety of noodles that you can pick from). And of course there will be an economic mixed veg and rice stall (KaiFa) available! Not forgetting, your staple food, duck and chicken rice by J.W 496 stall! 🥟🍜🍝🍱🍛

Eating healthy does not mean that you have to sacrifice all your favourite food. It is all about eating in moderation to have a balanced diet 😊 If you are looking for a new food spot, 318 Jurong East Street 31 Coffeeshop should be on your list!

For this week’s community feature, we have a peek into the life of Mdm Saharidah whose story was written by Mr Chang Huey Yin, as part of Kampungmakers.

In this short story, Mdm Saharidah shared her struggles as a young girl who was brought up from a low-income family. She learnt the true value of money from her parents, where she had to work hard just to buy a cone of ice-cream for herself. She also shared her experience regarding her own marriage and the importance of being sincere. Mdm Saharidah’s moving story allows her readers to relate to her experiences — that everyone has a different set of challenges in life, but it is also important to be sincere in everything that you do.

In today’s community story feature, we are fortunate to share the story of two senior volunteers at Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre, Margaret and Eileen. With the help of Kampung Makers, they have created a beautiful poem on their life journeys. The poem is divided into two columns, one from the perspective of Margaret and the other is Eileen’s. The poem highlights the struggles that each individual had faced and how they eventually managed to find a sense of fulfillment: a close-knitted relationship with their family and community.

Kampung Makers is a collaborative platform where a myriad of creators from different backgrounds, come together to create a collective story from the featured community. Today’s feature story is published by Kampung Makers.

There is a small community garden that sits quietly in the corner beside the lift lobby of Blk 319. Everyday between 10.30am and 12pm, (unless it rained the night before) a small group of 4 gardeners would open the gates to the garden to do their daily rounds of checking on the plants.

The garden was previously managed by an elderly couple living in the area before the current group took over. The elderly couple loved the garden dearly, but found the physical activity hard to keep up with due to their age. The quartet that took over are good friends where it started first with a husband-wife pair. The wife goes for a daily 8 A.M. qi-gong near the stadium and managed to rope in 2 of her good friends to join their small gardening group.

The garden is the quartet’s huge labour of love, which reflects their love for the community. You will see numerous types of edible plants and herbs - monster chilli, Indian borage, brinjal, cucumber, you name it and there might be a chance that they have one growing in their garden! Ask any question to any of them and they would share excitedly about their recent harvests, and their selling price when the new plants start to grow well.

Swing by and say hello to them! They would gladly share their harvest with you 🙂

在 大牌 319 的电梯角落里有个小型社区花园。每天上午 10 点 30 分到中午 12 点之间，有 4 位园丁会打开花园的大门。他们会每天轮流侍弄花草。

在现在的团队接手之前，花园以前由居住在该地区的一对老年夫妇管理。这对老夫妇非常喜欢这个花园，但发现由于年纪大了，身体不再向往年一样灵活。接管的四人组是好朋友，最初是一对夫妻。妻子每天早上 8 点在体育场附近练气功，并设法拉拢她的两个好朋友加入他们的小型园艺小组。

花园是四人组的巨大爱心劳动，体现了他们对社区的热爱。您会看到许多种可食用的植物和药草 - 巨型辣椒、印度琉璃苣、茄子、黄瓜，应有尽有！向他们中的任何一个提问，他们都会兴奋地分享他们最近的收成，以及当新植物开始长势良好时的售价。

Tucked in a small corner of the 318 coffeeshop, Siew Gon (or Ah Hoon, as she likes to be called) has been working tirelessly for the past 8 years serving the Yuhua community with delicious popiah. 😋

An opportunity came from Ah Hoon’s sister to run this stall at Blk 318, despite Ah Hoon living far away from Yuhua. Everyday, she wakes up at 6am to travel down to run her stall. The stall is part of a franchise that her family runs and her sisters run a bubble tea stall called SKY Bubble Tea. 🧋

On her fridge, there is a drawing gifted to her by one of her young customers. “Best Popiah in Singapore” it says. Ask Ah Hoon about it, she’ll tell you the story with a playful glint in her eyes. The artist of that drawing is a 8-year-old boy who had hated eating vegetables, but now willingly eats the whole popiah. Ah Hoon had started introducing the little boy to popiah with just the popiah skin, and slowly adding the egg and eventually the turnip and lettuce. He then drew that drawing and gave it to Ah Hoon. 🖍

It's hard to miss Ah Hoon’s bubbly face of the coffeeshop and infectious laughter. Come say hi to her every Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm! And don’t forget to get your popiah fix! 😁

“SKY 薄饼”的摊位位于大牌318咖啡店的一个小角落里。秀银 (她喜欢被称为阿银) 在过去的8年里在这个摊位孜孜不倦地为裕华社区提供美味的薄饼。 😋

阿银目前居住在新加坡的北区。因此，当时她从妹妹接手这个摊位的时候，她对裕华还很陌生。每天早晨 6 点，阿银就会起床，搭地铁来到裕华经营薄饼摊位。这是她的家族企业， 她姐妹目前在碧山经营一间泡泡茶店，叫做 SKY Bubble Tea。🧋

阿银在她的冰箱上贴了一张年轻顾客送给她的卡片。 卡片上写着：“新加坡最好吃的薄饼”。 当我们问起这张卡片的来源时，她会用俏皮的眼神告诉我们那张卡片的故事。 那张卡片是一个8岁的小男孩送给她的。他从小曾经讨厌吃蔬菜，但现在却愿意吃掉整个薄饼。小男孩会和他年幼的妹妹和妈妈一起来买薄饼。 当时，阿银跟小男孩开始介绍薄饼的时候，只给他吃了薄饼皮。慢慢地，阿银加入了鸡蛋，最后也加入了萝卜和生菜，也就是整个薄饼了。之后，小男孩就画了那张卡片，送给了阿银。阿银因此感到很骄傲。 🖍
