Things got spicy in Bangkok last month as Kimpton Maa-Lai hosted its annual Chilli Fest
Things got spicy in Bangkok last month as Kimpton Maa-Lai hosted its annual Chilli Fest, which included fiery eats by Michelin-star chefs from across Asia—some creations from Chef Haikal Johari of Avant made the trip to Bangkok for the event—and an intense chilli eating contest competition.
A special Aperol Spritz pop-up bar kept the summer vibes going and the (frankly insane) Bangkok heat in check during the hottest month of the year. Check out the party action below.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang is a sweet and spicy take on the nasi lemak we know and love. Named after the region in Lombok it was inspired by, it has the classic coconut-infused steamed rice we're familiar with, but with a whole leg of grilled chicken with a special Taliwang sauce.
Throw on some tempeh, a fried egg, cucumber, a generous sprinkling of ikan bilis and homemade sambal, and there you have it — a good reason to go to Yishun. 🤤🍚🍗🌶

Underground Takraw in Bangkok
Welcome to the fast-paced world of underground Takraw in Bangkok. For the uninitiated, Takraw is a popular Southeast Asian sport similar to volleyball, but played with your feet. Some of the best kick volleyball players come out of Thailand — the country’s national team are international champions.
Played to just 13 points (as opposed to the standard 15), games are faster in underground Takraw and all the players are real amateurs — no pros present here. Matches can be played for high stakes prize money for as much as THB21k (US$2,988) or a more casual THB4,500 (US$148). Frankly speaking, most players are in it for the money, says organizer “Foo Original”, a pioneer of underground Takraw in Thailand.
Amateurs or not, underground Takraw is a thrill to watch — you just got to appreciate the level of acrobatics involved as the underground players fly through the air and serve the ball some swift roundhouse kicks.
