These beautiful Neve 2254/A compressors are a real favorite here in the studio! Characterized by its rich and warm sound the 2254 is for example great at thickening up or toning subgroups. The compressor has a fixed attack at 5 ms but the ratio and recovery (release) time can be adjusted.

The compressor was designed in 1969 by David Rees who worked alongside Rupert Neve as a design engineer. David had previously worked for BBC and allegedly had first come up with the original model (its predecessor, the Neve 2253). This eventually led to the release of the classic Neve 2254 mono compressor/limiter in 1969, which also became the standard unit inside their 80 Series consoles. 🎚️
