Did you know that you often lose the biggest group of viewers in the first couple of seconds of your video? 😳
This is why a good “hook” 🪝 is crucial to keep your viewers watching.
A good hook should do two things:
1️⃣ Get people curious (so they continue to watch)
2️⃣ Confirm the title (by showing or repeating the video topic)
If you can do this well, you will improve your audience retention and watch-time, leading to more reach on YouTube which then leads to more views.
Now answer this, did I hook you in this video? 🤓
Everyone wants views and subscribers, but "more views" isn't always better.
More views can actually hurt your channel. 📉
What you want is more views (and high audience retention) from the right people. You don’t want people to click your videos just to leave after one minute.
That will only signal to YouTube that the content you’re creating isn’t worth watching.
10 views from the right people can be much better than 100 views from the wrong people.
📈 Finding your audience can also help YouTube know who to show your content to and that is when your channel will start to grow, when your content gets shown to the right people.
❌ Not when you ask your friends and family to watch it to “support” you.
