Annual Photography Awards results were announced earlier today, and two of our images received an honourable mention:

- 'Perfect storm brewing over the world's coral reefs.' An image taken during a scientific expedition to the Bab-El-Mandeb Strait last November with Dr Guilhem Banc-prandi and the fantastic Transnational Red Sea Center team was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Nature: Climate & Weather category.
- 'Ice Cores.' A portrait of ice cores extracted from the Greenlandic Ice Sheet by the Eastgrip - The East Greenland Ice-core Project received an Honorable Mention in People: Documentary category.

Thank you to the judges for the recognition!

You would be forgiven for thinking that this is about bragging rights.
However, the equation is simple, the more people see the images, the more people will care/be educated/exposed, and as a result, even more people will get to see the work. Full circle.

The title of this short documentary should really be
'Against all odds'.

Because conservation of the "reefs of hope", capable of withstanding climate change and rising ocean temperatures, is crucial for the region and beyond. And requires cross-border collaboration.

Back in November together with Ulrika Larsson we were invited to document a scientific expedition to the Seven Brothers archipelago, located between Djibouti and Yemen, in the middle of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The mission was led by the Transnational Red Sea Center at Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and its regional partners from the Université de Djibouti, the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherche de Djibouti, the Ministry of the Environment and the university in Port Sudan.

Congrats to the whole scientific team for its dedication and tremendous work.

Team work!
