The Assembly was supposed to consider and debate the Draft Federal Constitution but could not proceed due to insufficient members present and the absence of necessary procedural rules. Solomon Star quoted the Chairman Patterson Oti, also the Speaker of Parliament, explained that preparatory work required for informed deliberations had not been completed, preventing the meeting from proceeding. He recommended that the Prime Minister take legislative action to ensure the Assembly continues its mandate. Members were given an informal update on the Draft Constitution instead.

OPPOSITION SLAMS ASSEMBLY'S LEGITIMACY | Leader of Opposition, Hon. Matthew Wale, criticized the Prime Minister's decision to convene the Constituent Assembly on December 30, 2024, stating it undermines the integrity of the Constitution. Wale highlighted flaws in the Constitution (Amendment) (Constituent Assembly) Act 2023, including the lack of quorum requirements, transitional provisions, and legal authority for appointments, which could render the Assembly's work illegitimate. He argued that the government's failure to act in a timely manner and pass the necessary legislation jeopardized the Assembly’s ability to carry out its constitutional duties. Wale called for the repeal of the flawed Act and the creation of proper legislation to ensure the Assembly's success, urging a more sincere approach to the federal constitution process.
