Coral Sea Cable System beach landing at Tamarama in the Sydney South Cable Protection zone. Nothing to see but manhole covers as all is bored out below the beach and the park. Nice and safe that way. The Telstra duct is buried too out 700m to sea and CS2 is buried right out to 1500m water depth.

SISCC complete a monument to the submarine cable break and repair in 2023.

The SIDN cable break in 2023 was the most challlenging operational issue SISCC has ever faced. A vessel anchored illegally in the no-anchoring zone in Honiara and its anchor snapped the SIDN cable as it was pulled up. This caused very significant disruption to people throughout the regions and required eleven weeks to get our cable repair ship to Honiara and repair.

The operations team made heroic efforts over the week of the repair, manning the AUKI, Noro and Honiara cable landing stations 24/7 for over a week carrying out configuration work under the supervision of the repair vessel CS Lodbrog.

SISCC were left with sections of the broken cable after the repair so it was decided to put up display at our compound in a monument permanently recognising the small team involved.

SISCC contracted a local artist and sculptor who has produced this magnificent sculpture.

This is a reminder we must never cease vigilence and put in place National protections for our critical submarine cable infrastructure.

Great work from the SIWA team laying the water main. The main passes under the submarine cable ducts at SMI. They exercised great care and kept the cables well protected. Many thanks from the SISCC Team to SIWA.

SISCC International CS2 cable system experienced two short successive outages today between midday and 1pm. These were caused by instability in equipment at the Sydney end of the system. Telstra engineers were forced to re-seat and restart the affected equipment twice in order to return CS2 to service. The service has been stable since 1pm. Telstra and SISCC continue to monitor the situation and will change equipment during an early morning maintenance window if necessary. SISCC apologise to their customers and the general public for the inconvenience. SISCC will make further updates to this page as required.

SISCC Operations Engineers travel to Savusavu, Fiji to provide expert assistance to Fintel.

SISCC engineers, Maureen Salini and Rita Iro, have today (6th December) carried out tricky repairs to both SLU and MLU cards in remote amplifier units of the Fintel cable system in order to restore their spares to serviceable condition. The SISCC engineers used our new high end portable fusion splicing machine to carry out the repairs.

Well done to the ladies, both are terrific engineers and we are lucky to have them in SISCC. We are also delighted to have been able to work with our colleagues in Fintel and demonstrate the Pacific Island nations working successfully together on technology issues.

SISCC are pleased to inform that service has been restored and has been stable for the last two days for Auki. We apologise for the length of the outage. The problem was a failure of a 10x10 tributary card and complicated by the failure of two spare cards shortly after installation. SISCC waited until additional replacement spares had been flown in from France and then pre-tested the cards in Honiara before taking to Auki. The damaged cards are being returned to the Alcatel UK repair centre to determine the reason for these failures.

27/11/2023

We regret to inform that Services to Auki remain down. SISCC continue to work with vendor ASN and our support partner telstra on the problem. ASN are hand couriering additional spare parts from France to Honiara and expedite return of failed spares to their repair centre for analysis. SISCC are currently soak testing cards for 48 hours in Honiara before taking to auki for installation. We will keep the public informed of progress on this fb page. Once again our apologies for the ongoing inconvenience.

23/11/2023

We are experiencing a long duration outage of our domestic service from Auki. It is caused by hardware issues in equipment in Auki and not the cable itself. Our engineers continue to work with our providers, Telstra and ALCATEL to resolve this. Unfortunately we cannot yet forecast when our service will be restored to Auki. Our customers have redundant links they are deploying to maintain services to their customers until the repair is completed. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Last view of lodbrog for this trip, from the water this time. She is still on the wharf ant Apia making great progress with spares loading for the South Pacific regional cables.
