Celebrating World Radio Day – A Voice for Climate Action!

Although World Radio Day was officially marked on February 13, 2025, radio stations in Honiara, Solomon Islands came together today to celebrate its significance.

Hosted by ZFM Radio station and the Solomon Islands - Australia Partnership, the event focused on this year’s theme: “Radio: A Voice for Climate Action.”

Key speakers included:
Cameron Darragh, Political Counsellor at the Australian High Commission, who highlighted Australia’s support in tackling climate challenges affecting our communities.

Ms. Melissa Horokou, Ministry of Climate Change Representative, who emphasized how radio can amplify climate awareness and address urgent priorities.

Mr. Ofani Eremae, President of the Media Association Solomon Islands, who spoke on the power of radio in driving climate discussions and action.

The session wrapped up with open discussions among radio representatives, exploring ways to create engaging climate content and encourage public participation through interactive programs.

On this occasion of World Radio Day, the MASI Board of Directors wish to acknowledge and congratulate member organisations operating radio stations in our country.

In particular, we would like to congratulate the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation (SIBC), Paoa FM, ZFM , Wantok FM and Barava FM.

MASI acknowledges the invaluable work each of you is doing daily to keep our people informed and entertained.

This year, as we celebrate the 2025 World Radio theme, we also recognize the efforts of our member organisations who are investing and raising many individuals now serving in our various media houses.

February 13 each year was designated to celebrate radio broadcasts, improve international cooperation among radio broadcasters, and encourage decision-makers to create and provide access to information through radio, including community radios.
