Let us introduce Ms. Luisa Uai Taunga, one of our Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship recipients for 2025 📚🇳🇿👨‍🎓. Luisa will be pursuing a Master’s in Emergency Management at Massey University in Aotearoa New Zealand.

With years of experience as a Senior Assistant Secretary in the National Disaster Risk Management Office, Luisa has led initiatives in disaster risk reduction, community resilience training, and emergency response planning. Through her studies, she aims to deepen her expertise in emergency management, specifically to support Tonga’s communities in preparedness and resilience to natural disasters.

Congratulations, Luisa! All the best for your studies and we're excited to see the impact you’ll make on your return 🙌👏.

The Departing New Zealand High Commissioner Jonathan Schwass was honoured to call on Solomon Islands Chief Justice Sir Albert Rocky Palmer during his farewell calls.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Schwass thanked the Chief Justice for his collegiality and partnership over his term as High Commissioner.

🇳🇿 is a proud supporter of the justice sector in 🇸🇧. New Zealand leads a regional programme called Pacific Justice Strengthening Programme (PJSP), which assists in developing new tools and legal processes and also provides capacity building for judges, magistrates and judicial staff.

New Zealand also supports one full-time High Court Judge, Justice Howard Lawry, who manages and adjudicates civil and criminal cases, and supports professional development of the judiciary and legal professionals.

Save Redfern is one of the Development Programme Coordinators in the New Zealand High Commission in Kiribati who recently joined our office as part of her holiday here in the Solomon Islands. Ms. Redfern will be working online from the New Zealand High Commission in Honiara for the next 2 weeks before her return to Kiribati post.
I would like to sincerely thank the High Commissioner and the team in Honiara for having me be part of their whanau for the upcoming two weeks. I truly appreciate this opportunity and the warm welcome😊 I’ve received. Kam rabwa and Tagio tumas

Sammy has recently joined the New Zealand High Commission in Honiara as Secondary Secretary, Development. Sammy will be leading New Zealand’s work in the education, tourism, youth and aviation sectors.

“I am so happy☺️ to be in Solomon Islands. I look forward to working with the NZHC whanau and stakeholders to ensure that our programmes deliver meaningful outcomes for the people of Solomon Islands.”

In Sammy’s spare time, she enjoys kayaking, running, learning to play the guitar, and practicing her Pijin! If you see Sammy around, she will be happy to hear you say ‘halo’ or ‘kia ora’👋!
