Climate University

Last week ECF4CLIM Roadmap and interventions for promoting sustainability competences were presented in Climate University network’s annual meeting in Oulu Finland.

We got positive feedback for our suggestions and ideas for transformative pedagogies in sustainability for higher education.

Here are 3 pedagogical ideas deriving from our participatory research:
Promoting sustainability can be valuable for various reasons! Interview people who work for sustainability. Practice argumentation.
What kind of competences you need in future? Imagine future jobs working for sustainability and practice applying them.
Make studies meaningful and practice making change together! These competences are relevant for your future jobs,

Climate University’s MOOC courses are open to everyone!

November 13th, World kindness day

Juhannuskylä school in Finland, ECF4CLIM demonstration site celebrates this day today by encouraging people to be kind to each other by little gestures of smiling and greeting etc.

World Kindness Day offers an opportunity to highlight good deeds in the community and the common thread of kindness. We need to support each other in promoting sustainability and good atmosphere and positive approach appeals to people and connects! Little kind acts may spread from people to people and may make the day feel much better! Remember to be kind to your self as well!

🌱 **EcoPátios: Transforming Schoolyards for a Greener Future!**

From November 4-6, we had an inspiring EcoPátios event at Instituto Superior Técnico, organized by CiTUA – Center for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism, and Architecture. The gathering brought together teachers, NGOs, and local government representatives to exchange ideas on how we can transform school environments to support climate resilience and foster a love for nature and learning!

One of the highlights? A collaborative project between CiTUA and the ECF4CLIM initiative at EB Camarate School! Architecture master’s student Luís Roma Fernandes worked with students, teachers, and community members to create a sustainable design for “Quinta do Charco,” a green space selected for improvement. This project shows how schools can be at the heart of climate action, creating outdoor spaces that support environmental education and active citizenship.

EcoPátios is a perfect example of what happens when communities, schools, and institutions come together to build greener, more inclusive spaces. Here’s to more sustainable schoolyards that nurture the environment and empower young people to make a difference! 🌍💚

Organic Garden: Growing Sustainability at EB Bobadela

Students at the pilot school EB Bobadela, Portugal, took sustainability to the next level by creating their own organic garden as part of the ECF4CLIM project! Together with science teachers and school staff, primary students got involved in planting lettuce, eggplant, carrots, and peas, all grown with a focus on sustainability and community engagement.
"What if the school had its own garden?" became a reality, with the fresh produce being used in the school canteen or donated to families in need, strengthening community bonds. This hands-on initiative is not just about growing vegetables, but also about nurturing a sense of responsibility for our planet.
