Since the cousins Horia Panaitescu and Radu Ionescu opened UNDA Recording Studio in 2009, it became a growing creature with pure analog DNA. Located in the former industrial zone right in the middle of Bucharest city, in the beginning there was some 100 sq meters of space furnished with bare necessities for a studio. Every room was build from scratch, under the strict rules of building a proper sp

ace for the recording and mixing purpose. Over time, driven by passion and commitment, the little studio became a full option facility with more recording rooms, production nests, a tech-shop for professional audio gear, rehearsal spaces and lounge areas. Ready for action stands an array of state-of-the-art microphones, a pair of uncompromising Barefoot monitors, world-approved outboard processors and legendary (and we mean it!) preamps. Every single piece of electronics is here to design an unique character to your sound. A selection of great sounding software is complementing the analogue gear – in today's standard often a hybrid mixing setup delivers the best results. Producers can find here some rare sound sources (like a Tube Tone Generator), out of age synthesizers, acoustic instruments and twisted digital stuff speaking in (MIDI) tongues. On the other hand, producer’s friends can enjoy a coffee or a snack in the comfortable lounge, then tweet on our uber-fast WiFi about handcrafted steampunk pieces of art built by Horia’s father – Mecanic Moustache. The amazing studio spaces are also used for countless photo shoots, video shoots and events. UNDA Recording is becoming increasingly frequented by world-renowned artists and producers looking for a recording facility dedicated to sonic beauty. Today, in this corner of Europe, Romania’s capabilities of sound engineering can be represented with pride and passion - be it rock or pop, electronic, jazz or world music.

In săptămâna a IV-a am văzut cm funcționează un “spring reverb” AKG BX 20, am măsurat EQ-uri, am testat si rutat semnalul audio prin toate echipamentele și am ascultat.

De peste 5 ani completează echipa UNDA Recording. 🤟

Pe 5 decembrie îl avem cu noi pe Dan,la un workshoop, unde vom lua la puricat o piesă înregistrată și mixată- de la facere până la desfacere, de la recording până la exportul cu fundiță al mixului pentru trimis la masterizat 🎹

Vom discuta despre:

- Acustică - importanță, tratament, tips&tricks
- Recording - microfoane, poziționarea lor, preampuri, phase coherence
- Procesare - eq, compression, parallel compression, gate/expander etc.
- Analog juice - top-down mixing, outboard analogic, integrarea în DAW, summing analogic

This was a huge project for our studio, crafted beautifully by UNDA’s best citizens:

🍀Original soundtrack was composed by Alexei Turcan, this gifted chef of his creative kitchen, who squeezed every lemon and other unusual instruments for an emotional sound design, epic orchestral cues and memorable themes for the movie. Music production supervised with attention to the last milisecond of the reverb’s decay.
🍀 Then Corina Ciuplea - the professional black belted music engraver who “translated” all the scribbles and swooshes written by the crazy-hair composer to the most beautiful music score, so that session musicians can deliver the full emotional expression when we hit 🔴REC
🍀 And Dan Georgescu hits that button like no other! Those 3 days of orchestra recording session were an example of fast paced and flawless workflow. This guy does his mic placement and PT project management like Jim Carrey with the mask on. Never left the conductor (Tiberiu Soare) with the hands in the air, waiting and wondering. Always there, ears wide open.
With all the orchestra and additional recording done, in the last couple of weeks, Dan molded his first movie soundtrack mixing and the end result is glorious! Those faders on the SSL console are exhausted by now, the things they’ve been through...
🍀Time for more backstage bragging - the gearhead details, the geek stuff, the unique ingredients for capturing all these textures - spotlights on Horia Panaitescu!
Since UNDA studio can be mobile, Horia made a custom built setup for this special recording session. Access granted only to the best microphones, preamps and converters. Honorary mention goes to a 16-piece battalion of very rare BFE Filtek preamps, custom rack fitted and calibrated for a pristine signal capture. Nevermind the specs, trust us, it’s a privilege to see them, and it’s a jubilation to hear them!
🍀Our tech assistants for this project, Lucian Korponai and Alejandro Aurelio Rivera Alvarez (name spoken in one breath) were here and there and everywhere, very helpful addition for the things to run smooth.
🍀In the soundtrack, you can hear a little touch of an out-of-this-world voice, your soul is slowly ripping in half and then gets back as a whole - yeah, that’s Mădălina Pavăl effect.

See you at the cinema, the wilderness of Romania has a soundtrack now.

For those who heard ABOUT Studer 169, and never heard THE Studer famos grit of its preamps, we've made this video of the unit we used for so many years in our studio. This is ready-to-blast recipe for any drum recording. You can have the modern sparkle, or the fuzzy warmth, the channel EQ can handle it. Experiments with different set of microphones, drum sets (and drummers:)) are more than welcome.
