LINA.
A Short Film by Margarida Madeira.
Animation in Portugal is in full bloom.
As an art form which takes time and has its own pace, which is somehow slow, it is precisely because of its intricate attention to detail and serendipity that we find it has its own singular poetry.
LINA is about someone who does everything in half.
Not everything is about being and seeing it full.
Every glass is either half empty or half full.
It depends on who’s seeing it, or doing it.
Premièring next year.
Stay tuned.
The DISNEY Campaign.
How Gabriel Novis would make Mickey proud.
To work with the world’s most important, and relevant, entertainment group, would be a fact in itsef to be very, very, very happy about.
But to translate DISNEY’s values in a short film about one of their experience destinations is a dream come true, mainly because of the extraordinary scale and scope of a campaign that travels around the world and is watched by hundreds of millions of people.
That work, expertly directed by our BRO Gabriel Novis, showcases not only his incredible talent and gift to tell a story, but also his heart: instinct and gut feeling can take you far and beyond. And it can take you to Hawaii.
A few Pineapple Sundaes included.
E Komo Mai Gabriel.
Mahalo.
Mickey approved.
AMOR RADICAL.
Why Satish Kumar’s journey is a cinematic experience like no other.
Our dear friend Julio Hey, with whom we have produced several films and documentaries over the last years (and shared planes, trains, and crowded buses with), has always believed that every story is a journey in itself.
Through moving from one place to another, one also moves himself/herself.
The incredible story of activist Satish Kumar, who has fought all his life to prove that you can change something for the better by doing something better (sounds simple, right?), proves that you can be called an utopian and still do something more effective than a realist.
As he says “What have the realists achieved in this world?”.
AMOR RADICAL is just that, a radically simple view on what love and care, and effective change, can do.
From the UK to India, and after its Première at the MOSTRA São Paulo Film Festival to the world, this is a film about someone who goes somewhere by bringing something along: love.
The fact that some may find this radical proves that the while in the Renaissance the “mad” Leonardo gave us the Mona Lisa, the “realistic” Swiss gave us the Cuckoo Clock.
Guess which one you remember first.
How a Film Pitch by Director Rui Vieira proves that blood is thicker than water.
The Azores archipelago has been sold as a natural paradise for years in a row.
And it is, in many ways. But what these campaigns forget, always, is that there are also people around the islands.
Intrepid, strong-minded, raw and rough on the edges, poets and sailors, entrepreneurs, creatives, farmers, thinkers. This is not the land (only) of dolphins and whales, but of people who for centuries, before the arrival of planes, learned to live on their own.
Rui pitched the story to BRO Cinema about two generations of Azorean whalers, bound by blood and tradition, who face their own extinction.
Miguel, a teenager torn between legacy and conscience, is pushed by his father and the community to take up the harpoon and claim his own place at sea, hunting these majestic giants of the ocean.
But as whaling declines, it brings uncertainty and hardship to the families who depend on it.
NO SANGUE / IN THE BLOOD is at the pitch stage and in development waiting for the green light for going the distance.
Teaser Film supported by ICA.
Directed by Rui Vieira with a beautiful photography direction by Leandro Ferrão.
Está-lhes no sangue.
Z is for ZARA.
N is for NOVIS.
The new ZARA campaign by Gabriel Novis.
Rio de Janeiro has been the spectacular setting for endless films, ads, docs, and photo shoots for decades.
But it takes a little bit more to overturn stereotypes about beach vibes, and sunset flashes around Dois Irmãos and do something that takes a bit of old Hollywood glamour and mixes it with a charming, sexy, and truly contemporary vibe.
That is achieved in the ZARA campaign by one of our favorite BROs who always pushes boundaries and aesthetic frameworks and who does that by being a true original.
Papo reto mermão, vai dar praia.
Gabriel is pure sangue bom.
Vambora, vai tar um céu de brigadeiro.
It’s oh so quiet. It’s oh-so still.
SILENCE by Francisco Froes.
Not every shhhhhhh makes someone quiet down.
BRO Cinema is always supportive of Portuguese talent, from the inception of any concept, idea or script, to its filming and screening.
So it came as no surprise when the first Short Film by Francisco Froes, SILENCE, needed a bit of a lift up after almost 15 years in the creative process to reach its Première.
We are always proud when someone takes something from point A to point B, and when that journey took Francisco and actors Rafael Morais and Sara Sampaio to do something that could translate into the story that Francisco had in mind, we were there from the start.
As such, and because silence might be key, but we work with sound, we’re happy to say that this journey has reached another stepping stone, turned a corner or two, and is now doing the Festivals run (which started at Tribeca Lisboa).
In a way, this is Francisco’s voice, shouting out loud, that storytelling still matters, and that although 15 years have passed from that first spark and idea, creativiy has matured into a beautiful SILENCE (although Francisco can sing). Mark Ronson, watch out.

The FBI International from CBS+Paramount. How BRO Cinema made the shooting of one of the most viewed series in the world possible in Portugal as Portugal (and how Inês Herédia kicks ass).
Over the last decade, BRO has made a few conscious choices to shoot for the stars and to take risks. We have traveled far and made the impossible, well, possible. Through technical know-how and pure gut instinct, we have mixed-tested experience, great expertise, and talent. Oh yes, a lot of talent. Put together, working together. Always. One of the most challenging episodes of the new series from CBS+Paramount, FBI International from Emmy Award Winner creator Dick Wolf, was shot in Portugal and took us to new heights as its exclusive partner. This was only possible with the incredible hindsight and expertise of our partners at PSP Production, with whom we have collaborated and joined at the hip in many incredible shoots. This is what we take pride in: making it happen. When most falter or doubt, we go for it. It's as simple as that.
Every story has a long journey between the first spark or idea, the follow-up as it gets put on paper or digital screen, and then as it travels to faraway places.
The Tuner of Silences by Mário Patrocínio has had an incredible journey, and it has reached a truly singular public awareness from film audiences around the world.
We are deeply proud that it is now available through OPTO SIC, as it reaches new publics, and as that first spark/idea takes flight, over and over again.
