BRO Cinema has always been very proud to promote a multidisciplinary, singular and open creative field for different people and projects.
We get a lot of ideas, and a lot of scripts, and also a lot of dreams (and a lot of Emails).
When we met João Silva, what made it easy to connect was that he had an entire universe of characters, textures, sounds, colours and everything you can think of, in his head.
KATABASIS, now in post-production for special effects, has something which Portuguese Cinema usually lacks: a concept.
And one should say, a vision.
Get ready for something truly unique and magical, mixing the underworld and the upper echelons of reality and fantasy.
Not everything is what it seems.
And when João is drawing, not all BROs look the same (although this is a truly smooth one).

SAN SEBASTIÁN FILM FESTIVAL 2024.
Here we go!

ON FALLING by Laura Carreira.
BRO Cinema is deeply proud that the first Feature Film by Laura Carreira, ON FALLING, starring Joana Santos who leads an international casting, has been selected for competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
This achievement marks an incredible year of taking this story from script to screen together with Sixteen Films.
Supported by the BBC, BFI, ICA, Screen Scotland and Goodfellas, and involving an incredible team, the Film has “fallen” on the best possible place.
This year’s edition will see that ON FALLING, and Laura, will join a list of talents such as Mike Leigh, François Ozon, Costa Gavras, Gia Coppola or Albert Serra, amongst many others. What a journey to share.

This is always about all those who were able to tell this story, and all those who believed in it from start to finish.

We’ll keep “tuning” a few silences until a beautiful sound, such as this, keeps popping up.

SNEAK PEEK.
LINA by Margarida Madeira.

There is always a first time for everything.
For BRO Cinema this is a landmark as it produces its first Animation Short Film, but not for Margarida Madeira who has a long and multisdiciplinary career in Animation.
LINA is a magical tale of letting things done by the half (what we call in Portugal a meias).
To leave things at that strange balance between start and finish. The middle.
Half eaten, half dressed, half read.
This is the first teaser of the Film which is reaching its silver lining this month after more than a year of hard work.
In a way, the Film is also in its middle: ready for a rollout on what promises to be a beautiful path, this time from start to finish.

GRAND PRIX CANNES LIONS 2024.

They say a good picture is worth a thousand words.
This one is worth a thousand thank-yous.
Our own Mário Patrocínio has just won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions, the most important award which can be attributed to any advertisement campaign in the world.
The campaign he directed, “Magnetic Stories” is in itself an extraordinary and emotional adventure on how to transform the scary and frightening MRI scan sounds into whimsical and magical audiobooks for children.
The campaign proves the extraordinary ability to transform a medical experience perceived as highly frightening for children into something useful, and therapeutical. And also surprising.
After his Gold Lion last year for “The Most Beautiful Sound”, Mário brings home something truly special which makes us all very proud and emotional at BRO Cinema.
An image may be worth a thousand words, but you still need words, and sounds, to describe a great image.

ANIMATION. Something’s moving at BRO.

Time is a great sculptor, but sometimes even great sculptors need a bit more time. Animation, somehow still the shy cousin of Film, should step up and reclaim its own space (and family), because it has been animation which has pushed Film in many operational and conceptual fields.

The work of Animators, mostly in silence and with stubborn poetry, is so extraordinary, and under the radar (and wraps) of so many big studios, that we talk more about the studios than of the people behind them. BRO Cinema is proud to be developing several incredible projects with one of Europe’s most singular and promising talents in Animation, Margarida Madeira.

Margarida, now in the works with BRO with her short Lina (soon to be Premièred), will soon start developing a very personal and magical story, Pêlo na Venta, and 7 Senhoras based on her own book. Our PR would say it is now at full speed, but Margarida would say that speed does not really apply to Animation, and rightly so.

With an eclectic background and worldwide work experience with incredible teams at Blanco Niño, Pickle Films, Micu Film/Global Dialogues, Terricola and Hierro Animación, amongst many others, Margarida understands what we hold dear at BRO: where there is a good story, turn it into an unforgettable (animated) memory. And yes, it takes time to create great memories. As it should.

A preview of sorts of what we’re working on.

Luis Campos, one of our most talented storytellers, chose the area around Entre-os-Rios and the Tâmega/Douro valleys in Portugal as the perfect natural stage for a stunning human portrait in his first feature movie, Terra Vil.
After a great success with his shorts Boca Cava Terra and the awarded Monte Clérigo, Luís has assembled a multidisciplinary cast led by Rúben Gomes, Lúcia Moniz, António Capelo, William Cesnek, Beatriz Relvas, José Martins, Manuel Nabais or Francisca Sobrinho, amongst many others, and with BRO Cinema, Matiné, Dispàrte, Um Segundo Filmes, Agente a Norte and Anticyclone Productions as producing partners, to create a unique and singular portrait of daily family life in the heart of the country, with the tricky challenges and endeavors of growing up in a small, tight-knit community.
What goes behind closed doors, as they say.
The film is on the final stages at the cutting room, and we’re anxious to see what’s next for Luís (and behind those doors as the closed ones at BRO hide the editing rooms where magic is made).

Breakthroughs are something we’re very proud at BRO Cinema. Especially when they bring singular Portuguese talent to the world’s creative center stage.

BRO Cinema is truly happy to announce that the debut feature by writer/director , On Falling, supported by , Film, , and , and produced by /BRO Cinema and through Ken Loach’s production company Sixteen Films in London, has been selected for the Great 8 showcase (with support/funding from the BFI and the British Council) at the .
This feature, starring amongst an incredible international casting, is one of BRO Cinema’s most intricate and complex projects to date and marks its increasing international collaborative framework with some of the most important and relevant production companies in the world.

Moreover, it marks Laura’s incredible journey from the initial idea and script to the magic of the screening room.

"Para Sempre Melinha" is a short documentary celebrating the life of one of SC Braga's most cherished fans, whose passion for football left an indelible mark on Portugal's sporting landscape. Though Melinha may have departed two years ago, her legacy continues to inspire, and we feel privileged to have captured a glimpse of her remarkable journey.

What a pleasure it is to collaborate with clients who are committed to sharing the most compelling stories from the world of sports. A heartfelt thank you to Betclic Portugal for entrusting us with the task of bringing this incredible narrative to light.

Behind the scenes, BRO poured their hearts into this project. Special thanks to our team, particularly Chico Gomes for his direction and Yuri Sardenberg for his masterful cinematography.

What a great way to start the year. M&C Saatchi Berlin has invited us to join the challenge to create a strong piece for Porsche, which supports Sebastian Steudtner, the current World Record bearer for the giant wave ever surfed, on his mission of elevating the sport to the next level. It's an homage to Sebastian, to surf, to Porsche, and, of course, to Nazaré.

"The Hunter & the Prey" is Directed by Mário Patrocinio, cinematography by Pedro Patrocinio, and still photography by Kenneth Kemp.

To work on such a stunning project proves that when passionate teams come together, magic happens, and outstanding films come alive. I hope you enjoy it as much as we loved doing it. Just like Sebastian, we're ready!

🇵🇹🇵🇹 The Branded Content Talks emerged to recognize and celebrate the best practices of Branded Content and Brand Storytelling in Portugal based on global trends and major movements. The first conference took place on June 29th in Lisbon.

It was incredibly exciting for BRO to participate in this powerful initiative's inaugural edition actively. Our founder and director, Mário Patrocinio, widely regarded as one of the country's foremost Branded Content enthusiasts, had the opportunity to share his experience and vision with other brilliant professionals in the field (Hugo Veiga, Cláudia Rodrigues, Susana Albuquerque, Pedro Varela & Francisco Faria) during the "Power of Storytelling" panel. Seeing a packed auditorium of individuals eager to learn more about this format we strongly believe in was genuinely inspiring.

We would also like to highlight the immense knowledge and expertise of Patrícia Weiss, who spares no effort in bringing together thought leaders and shedding light on a topic that we consider of utmost relevance in contemporary communication. Our gratitude also goes to Luis Ferreira and the Cofina Boost Solutions for their unwavering partnership in this initiative and to all the brilliant professionals who participated in another engaging panel discussions (Susana Doutor Bernardo Rodo, Mónica Nogueira de Sousa Luís Miguel Santos Rita Sobral Rita Torres-Baptista).
