Happy World Oceans Day 🐬

Of all the animals in the ocean, one that brings joy to almost everyone is the dolphin, right? But why is that? And why do we often feel the need to possess or control the things we love, instead of simply letting them be and respecting their freedom? Sometimes, I think we confuse love with self-interest.

That’s why it’s worth reflecting when we call ourselves ocean lovers—what are we actually doing to show that love?

I don’t believe buying a ticket to a marine park is the answer… and hey, we’ve all been there. What matters is that we evolve, rather than point fingers. Let’s do our part to make our love for the ocean a two-way relationship, built on respect and care.

When I started to try to swim with dolphins in the wild, I realized that most of the times watching the dolphins from the bow was far more fulfilling than jumping in and trying to force an interaction. In the end, it should be their choice to come closer, not ours to impose.

Move through life with curiosity, connection, respect and a little bit of play. You will probably do more for what you love than you think 🤍

Over the past few years, I’ve been trying to find the best way to protect myself from the sun without harming nature — especially the ocean. Many sunscreens contain nano zinc oxide and nano titanium dioxide, which can be extremely damaging to coral reefs and marine life.

Our lives depend on these fragile ecosystems, so it’s up to us to do everything we can to protect them.

That’s why I’m really happy to have discovered BEACH-STREET SKINCARE .Their Algae-Based Formula uses only eco-friendly ingredients, offers long-lasting protection, doesn’t sting the eyes, feels non-greasy on the skin, and comes in plastic-free packaging.

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear what you think! 🌿🌊☀️

There’s something magical about the way childhood and curiosity go hand in hand, like this California sea lion pup, eyes wide, heart open, discovering the ocean one dive at a time 🦭

When we’re young, life feels more exciting because everything is new. Every creature, every shimmer of light, every unfamiliar sound sparks wonder. That curiosity fuels our growth, whether we’re sea lions or humans.

Somewhere along the way, many of us lose that spark. But what if we didn’t? ✨

May we all carry a little bit of that pup within us, fearless, wide-eyed, and always ready to explore.

Stay curious. Protect the wild places where wonder begins.

During this season in the Sea of Cortez, thousands of mobula rays form a living vortex of shared leadership and collective intelligence, constantly in motion, yet becoming one. 🌀

What if true intelligence lies not in control, but in cooperation?

A Starry Ocean Giant 🌌

In ancient Polynesian and Ma’ohi cultures, whale sharks are seen as celestial beings, navigators, and wayfinders, symbolizing wisdom and safe passage across the ocean.

It was a surprise to encounter the ocean’s largest fish during a whale-watching tour in French Polynesia – Spotted by Captain Vaimana during our Ninamu Oceanic Tour)

A Mother’s Embrace 🐋🤍

The most powerful bond in nature, the essence of maternal devotion in the wild. A connection that sustains life, in the vast ocean and every corner of Earth.

In his first few weeks of life, this 4 meter baby rests tenderly against his mother in the calm waters of French Polynesia. She provides him all the lessons, nourishing and protection he needs to thrive. Over the next two months, under her care, the calf will grow extremely fast, doubling his weight every couple of weeks thanks to his mother’s nutrient rich milk, all while building the strength he needs for their long journey back to Antarctica.

This was a very special day, a day full of whale encounters all around the island. The best birthday gift I could have wished for!!

There was a bit of swell (incredible waves in the NE), but I still managed to take the split shots. I always love capturing these to create a connection between the surface and the underwater world. 〰️

I won’t forget this “little” one.. 🐋

I’ve been thinking about him a lot. Wondering if he made it safely to Antarctica with his mother. Hoping the ocean was kind to him.

He was the first humpback baby I saw born in the 2025 season. But even in those first days, something seemed off. He was thin, his body was showing signs of struggle. Scars from the reef, bites from cookiecutter sharks. Not the plump, well-fed calf we’re used to seeing.

And yet, he was so full of life. Playful, endlessly curious. Every time we met him, he came close, inspecting us one by one as if trying to understand who we were. He had that spark.

Weeks later, some photographer friends captured him again, his body now covered in parasites, looking weaker than before. But still, the same energy. Still the same playful spirit.

Nature is tough. Some stories don’t have endings we get to know. But I’ll be hoping for him, always. And maybe, I’ll see him back again. 🤞🏽🤞🏽✨

Hello, Happy New Year! :)

Home in Portugal has been a place of rebuilding, a time to reflect, introspect, and consider my next steps.

After spending most of last year living salty, like a sea gypsy, slow traveling allowed me to see the world through different perspectives. Now, I’ve embraced a season of patience and short-term sacrifice, resisting the urge to rush the process and my feelings.

It’s definitely easier to keep doing what you’ve always done, but there’s no growth in that. True growth happens when we face discomfort and question ourselves in ways we never have before. I’ve learned that we discover so much about ourselves through conversations with complete strangers. These encounters expand our minds, help us give more of ourselves, and spark acts of kindness.

It’s a privilege to embrace life’s journey with a sense of surrender. We’re here to face challenges, learn, help, experience, and evolve. No matter how much society promotes competition, efficiency, and technology, we are nothing without true intentions, empathy, loyalty, and gratitude.

Lately, I’ve been more intentional about how I spend my time, energy, and resources. I choose activities that fulfill me rather than just entertain me, which has naturally pushed me away from social media.

Above all, my priorities have been to live intentionally, build deeper connections, make sustainable choices, and create space for my creative expression - so I can build a life and work that I don’t want to escape from.

This time of reflection has been much needed, and soon I’ll share more of my work :) 🙌🏽

If you made it this far, thank you so much for taking the time to read! It means a lot 🤍
