It comes as no surprise for someone who grew up in a small farm in Coimbra, Portugal and made his career in international hospitality in Spain, Brazil, UK and the US. Dedicated hotel manager and natural born story teller, Nelson loves small personal ambiences, which show that there was love and dedication put into, where one can experience a million different details all working together. He has w

orked in for most of his career at unique places with a great share of it being at Palacio Belmonte, where he personally oversees each guest’s stay, being more like a local friend who really knows the city well and will unbiasedly recommend the best that it has to offer. The travels he shares on his Blog, Facebook ,Twitter and Pinterest are mostly friend generated, as he feels that the best way to get to know a city is through an insider, who can share feelings and emotions about sites, food and people as passionately as he does about Lisbon. Big thanks to film festival in Berlin, and 15 Minutes of Fame film festival in Florida for officially selecting my work out of the hundreds of submissions.

Cavalariça Évora is an exquisite restaurant where art is present, not only in the decoration, but in the menu as well. Housed within Évora’s cultural hub, the Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval, Cavalariça seeks to showcase the best of Alentejo cuisine with a modern and arty twist. Chef ‘s creations stretch the fabric the flavours of Alentejo, bringing them into the realm of aesthetics and visual appeal. Traditional flavours like rabbit escabeche are served with mini taco tortillas and the earthiness of a the mushrooms is topped with caramelised barley seedlings. But fear not, as the deep flavours of Alentejo’s cuisine are all there. The team are all youngsters and not only from Portugal, but Japan and Chile as well, which gives the restaurant an even more international feel within Alentejo.

The best thing about is that it’s just a bunch of kids, ABSOLUTELY CRUSHING IT when it comes to Portuguese Cuisine. Although the presentation is borderline fine dinning, the rustic traditional flavours is the Portuguese land and Sea are all there! They showed up in numbers and it’s incredible that a group of 20 years old are able to deliver such high quality cuisine, specially when the Avô Miquinhas restaurant is only a couple of months old.

Kudos to the kids :)

I have dedicated most of my professional life promoting this beautiful, marvelous, one-of-a-kind destination.

Having repeatedly travelled across the whole of Portugal to documents its food and wine, I have had the fortune to witness and live the REAL PORTUGAL!

You know what I constantly find?

Kind folks…Warm embraces…But most of all Pride!

People proud of their bifanas, of their seafood cataplanas, of their pastéis, of their wines, of their heritage…Pride for Portugal!

This is the essence of my work: to make the whole world aware of just how incredibly amazing Portugal is…

Not only to visit, but to live, to start a business, to grow a family…

To enjoy life, as its meat to be lived!

I am proud to be Portuguese…and I plan to keep doing my job regardless of all the recent abuse telling me to stop :(

is not just a restaurant, Gaveto is a reference in traditional Portuguese gastronomy. After 40 years of constantly elevating traditional Portuguese food to its highest levels, Manuel Pinheiro (owner) has handed the management of Gaveto over to his sons, José Manuel and João Carlos. However, in the kitchen, the same chefs remain. The same chefs to whom traditional Portuguese cuisine is a religion, rather than an occupation. Their dishes, always based on the essence and simplicity of traditional Portuguese cuisine, helped create the legend of the “fish and seafood sanctuary” Gaveto is famous for. I had scallops and lobster açorda, something to die for... literally!

My LactAçores milk comercial won the Best Commercial and Advertisement award at the Castle Film Media Awards in Rome, Italy .

It’s award #4 for this film and the best way to start 2024!

November marks the beginning of olive harvest season in Alentejo. Much like wine, Alentejo olive oil is a sought after commodity. Its more recent notoriety in restaurants and homes across northen Europe has given the established Spanish, Italian and Greek competitors a run for their money. I spent a day with Antonio at his olive press , close to Marvão in north Alentejo. Here, far away from the bright lights of the Northern European supermarkets, olives are picked by hand, and cold pressed on the same day. These people never heard of refined olive oil, for them the normal is what we call virgin olive oil. It is not golden, it is almost green, fresh and peppery. Experiencing this reality makes me want to laugh at the fools who are impressed and buy olive oil wrapped in golden bottles at the supermarket. Save your money, buy a trip to Portugal and get a 5 litre jug which will should last you 2 years.
