Canova was especially well known for his marble sculptures. Often regarded as the greatest of the Neoclassical artists, his artwork was inspired by the Baroque and the classical revival, but avoided the melodramatics of the former, and the cold artificiality of the latter.

9 April, 1969

On this day in 1969, American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan released his ninth studio album "Nashville Skyline" on the Columbia Records label which (as the title suggests) embraced country music.

With liner notes by Johnny Cash, (who also appeared on the record), at the time of release it was dismissed by some critics as lightweight, but included the notable single "Lay Lady Lay", which became a major international hit for Dylan.

Fans of Bob can listen to the July 1969 single "Lay Lady Lay" here: https://youtu.be/LhzEsb2tNbI

The album also became Dylan's fourth UK No. 1 LP and produced two other hit singles:
1. "Threw It All Away" / "Drifter's Escape" (the lead single, released in May 1969) https://youtu.be/8iruzIEQsL4 / https://youtu.be/Ed4sKRSmHmo
2. "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You" / "Country Pie" (the third single, released in October 1969) https://youtu.be/9ZhLGP5dF2k / https://youtu.be/TmRUQpqKqBU
