From October 15th to the 20th you'll get 2X Insiders points on all LEGO purchases!

And for a threshold of US$200/€200/£180 this is one of the Gift With Purchase sets you'll get, the 40696 Bakery. (this copy was provided to me by LEGO for review)

It matches the style of the Fruit and Candy Stores released earlier this year which is neat if you’re into collecting that kind of stuff. The model itself looks cute from the front not gonna lie, and the open back gives us a good look of the two floors, that do come apart, with the store and displays filled with cookies printed tiles on the ground floor, and a sitting area on the second.

I’m personally not the kind of person that goes out of my way to buy LEGO for the GWP offers, the 2x Insiders Point events are a lot more appealing, and if along the way, something like this shows up on my doorstep, I'm not complaining.

A few of my personal best recommendations would be:

Winter Village Post Office ❯ https://bit.ly/3B78ocq
LEGO Ideas Tuxedo Cat ❯ https://bit.ly/3V1iq6i
LEGO Icons Retro Radio ❯ https://bit.ly/3UYoWcV
LEGO Ideas Nightmare Before Christmas ❯ https://bit.ly/3YP1AKa

And while I'm not recommending these, unless a big sale comes along, the 2X Insiders point event may be the only time to get these at a much more "affordable" price:

Star Wars UCS Sail Barge ❯ https://bit.ly/3TrzPDN
Lord of the Rings Barad-dur ❯ https://bit.ly/3K3KQWS
Icons Artemis Space Launch System ❯ https://bit.ly/3y0VaMN

If you can't miss the LEGO Star Wars Sail Barge day 1 run to the online store cause it's live at midnight for Insiders!!

And for those of you who do end up getting it, you'll get the Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber Gift With Purchase as an added bonus (and a few more staked up on top of it I think), OR as a way to get back some of the money spent on the Barge if you sell the Lightsaber in the aftermarket.

Star Wars, Marvel, Technic 🤢, Sonic, Animal Crossing, Botanicals and more!

My favourites, are the Marvel Milano and the LEGO Ideas Jaws set that people will have to wait just a few more days to order (August 3rd).

Kinda curious about that Crafting Table even though I'm not that big into Minecraft myself so you should expect a review maybe next month or so!

Ok y'all, June has got to be one of the craziest LEGO releases in recent times!

Don't believe me? Barad-dur is coming out, the Architecture Notre-Dame, the Ideas Tuxedo Cat, the Retro Radio, 18+ Simba, Harry Potter, Jurassic World and so much more that I can't name them all here.

Besides the Fell Beast set gift with purchase you'll get with your Lord of The Rings Barad-dûr purchase not really sure if there's any extra offers at this point in time, but I would assume that to be the case. I'll keep you posted!

Where are the Legend of Zelda fans at?!

Today the LEGO Group unveils the LEGO The Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set, an epic homage to an iconic character in Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda series. The 2-in-1 LEGO set is a brick-built recreation of the character, which can either be built as the Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

2500 pieces, 4 minifigures, retails for $300/€300/£260 and can already be pre-ordered from LEGO!

May is finally here and it's all about Star Wars releases!

The new UCS Tie Interceptor, Droideka and the Podrace Diorama would be the highlights as far as I'm concerned but there's also that super exclusive book, a few Brickheadz and playsets as well.

Buy the new LEGO Star Wars here: https://bit.ly/3Omh16y

To entice people into the new stuff there's a few GWP sets you can qualify for, that Trade Federation Troop Carrier (that should have been a regular retail set) and the AAT polybag.

But WAIT! There's MORE! Codes to get select Star Wars sets for cheaper, 4X Insiders points on a few others, and redeemable rewards in the form of a very cool poster and a metal coin with the classic LEGO Star Wars logo. I would save my points for discounts honestly but regardless of all that it's gonna be heaven for LEGO Star Wars fans!

26/04/2024

The LEGO Macaw Parrots took the LEGO Art theme in a completely different direction, sure you can still hang these on a wall like you would most LEGO Art sets, but this pair of birds take an organic approach to the theme that I’m not exactly sure how I feel about.

I had these hanging on a wall at home for a while and I gotta admit they looked nice there, but I took them down to write the review and never put them back up. The colors make for an amazing parts pack out of the set, but it’s also the colours that make them stand out way too much for my taste, though I’m sure there’s people out there who love it because of that.

The builds were definitely interesting to do with the different layers of surfaces that give the builds some sense of depth, the dentist office blue colored botanicals on the orange branch add a bit of diversity to the looks of it all that I can appreciate, though all of the individual teal “feathers” of the pink parrot became very tedious to build after a while.

But for me personally, the worse of it all is how the pink parrot needs you to drill two holes in your wall to hang it rather than the single one requirement the bright yellow parrot has. As handy as I am with LEGO, drilling holes in a perfect straight line isn’t one of my strenghts, and my attempts at modifying the back structure to balance the build to a single hole requirement proved unsucessful, so there’s that.

Not a terrible deal, outside of the US, considering the price of $59.99/€49.99/£44.99 for 644 pieces but despite all that, I still prefer Hokusai’s Great Wave or even the Amazing Spider Man Art sets over the Macaw Parrots honestly but maybe that’s just me!

Would love to know what do you all think of it though!

Thank you LEGO for sending this for review, views and opinions are my own.

24/04/2024

For the last couple of months I’ve been finding a particular interest in $10 LEGO sets, bought a fair amount myself, got a few from LEGO to review as well, because it’s kinda cool evaluating them all and comparing what different themes and products can do with a seemingly similar budget.

And one of the craziest ones has got to be this LEGO City Go-Karts and Race Drivers set. For a $10 product you get two wheeled vehicles with rubber tires (which internally aren’t cheap), two minifigure, 6 printed elements not counting the minifigures and no stickers?! WHAT?! That has got to be amongst the best play value you can get out of a set this small right?!

Specially when comparing them to all of these products that achieve slightly smaller levels of play value (I think). It’s even perfect to be shared with two kids, since each of the kart and respective drivers have their own bags of pieces and building instructions.

Admitedly the karts aren’t very parts intensive, but I don’t think kids will be counting the number of pieces, and of course there’s a trophy because why else the drivers would be racing against each other right?

If you’re looking for a cool gift for kids that’s somewhat affordable and should provide a ton of fun, look no further as this is the one I would recommend, hands down.

Thank you LEGO for sending this for review, views and opinions are my own.

22/04/2024

The LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Boathouse is an interesting location to see being turned into a LEGO set as it gets very little screen time over the course of the entire series. It does manage to do a few things right with the character selection I think, a highly detailed Professor Mcgonagall with a printed tile with a list of 1st year students which include Harry, Hermione, Neville and Dean Thomas all included in the set as well. Hedwig is also there, a spider and Neville’s Toad hidden in a rock which was kinda neat.

The two boats are simple builds, same with the boathouse which does come with one of those collectible portraits hidden away in the brown tower structure so to speak, but I guess the most appealing thing about it all, is that it is the second set, together with the Owlery, that will start to build upon a new Hogwarts Castle system as hinted in the box and building instructions of both sets.

It’ll be quite interesting to see how that shapes out to be and if it will have significant improvements over the old system but I guess time will tell.

$37.99/€37.99/£31.99 for 350 pieces isn’t the best deal out there, even though you do get 5 minifigures out of it all. Apart from Hermione all are exclusive to this set at this point in time, but as time will go on that won’t be the case anymore (probably) diminishing the appeal of the product even further, unless you’re planning on building up the entire Hogwarts Castle so there’s that.

Hagrid’s Hut or the Ford Anglia were far better Harry Potter products in my opinion so I can’t say I’m overly excited over this one.

Thank you LEGO for sending it for review, views and opinons are my own.

LEGO Star Wars Hallway Scenes are becoming a thing? Dark Trooper Attack retired last year and now there’s Boarding the Tantive IV scene which to me are all but glorified display stands for minifigures, not my cup of tea, but something I don’t really have an issue with either! As a big fan of the prequels there’s plenty of scenes that would be amazing to see and could probably sway my opinion on these so get working Star Wars team!

Character selection seems to be amazing though. 7 minifigures in total on a $55 LEGO set is pretty darn good if you ask me. You get Darth Vader and 2 Rebel Fleet Troopers non-exclusive to this set but then never seen before Imperial Stormtroopers, Captain Antilles and Clone Trooper Fives?!

It’ll come as no surprise by now seeing this completely out of place minifigures being included in sets they have no business being there like Fives here, that Sith Lord I’ve never heard about on the R2-D2 set or Saw Guerrera on the upcoming Sith Infiltrator. They come with a neat display stand to celebrate the 25 years of the LEGO Star Wars theme and an extra plate so you can connect your anniversary minifigures display stands together but I don’t know, I don’t see it. I may be falling out of love for the LEGO Star Wars theme so don’t mind me.

The hallway itself looks great, conveniently has technic holes and pins for you to buy yourself a second copy and expand the build, and there’s little triggers for play functions on four different places that allow the minifigures to be blown into the air kinda to simulate the fighting that occurs in there. There’s also a lever that turns the door at the end of the corridor into a blown version for Darth Vader’s dramatic entrance.

I’m really excited about the midi-scaled ships, the smaller R2-D2 is great but turned out to be not as exciting as I hoped it would and out of all the upcoming Star Wars products, the only one I’m really looking into getting is the Podrace Diorama due to my love for the prequels. I’ll probably review most of them eventually just because but yeah. Sorry if this turned into a rant more than a review but here you go, despite my personal opinions I think this is a great product all things considered.

Thank you LEGO for sending this set for review, views and opinions are my own.

18/04/2024

Little things are as iconic as listening to the theme song of the X-Men animated series when I was kid, fast forward a few years, Disney+ releases a new show, X-Men 97, bringing back all the things I missed from the show as a kid and LEGO comes in clutch with the X-Men X-Jet set.

Character selection is outstanding! I could have done well without Magneto in favour of Jean, Beast, or my fave X-Men member Gambit, but he’s alright I guess, no issues with the other 3, at all, Cyclops Rogue and Wolverine are all amazing and here’s hoping for more X-Men inspired sets so we can assemble the whole team for those of you, like myself who missed out on Storm and Beast from last years Marvel Collectible Minifigure series.

As for the X-Jet, I kid you not, this is one of the sleekest plane/jet/spaceship designs I have ever gotten the chance to build in the many years I’ve been into LEGO, for real. Besides the stud shooters which are necessary I guess due to the age marking of the box I can’t name a flaw (stickers don’t count). It’s not an overly complex build with out of this world building techniques, but in turn a good selection of parts that make every angle of the jet near perfect. There’s also two opening cockpit pieces with room for 4 minifigures and a few boxes with round tiles for the stud shooters as far as play features go and that’s about it.

But with this many things being so amazing, there’s one fatal flaw with the set. It is singlehandedly the MOST overpriced LEGO set I have ever laid my eyes upon. 359 pieces for $85 is outrageous to say the least. 23.7cents a piece?! Sure there’s exclusive minifigures with prints in there, and the jet does have its fair share of big sized elements but besides a big fat fee that the IP partners may be asking for, I see no reason why such a LEGO set would ever be priced like this.

Nostalgia does sell, and this particular product is probably not aimed at adult fans of LEGO who know better, but maybe for new people into the hobby or as a one time purchase thing for people who watched the original show, or for those who jump on the hype of the new one.

I’m forever grateful for being part of the LAN program and LEGO that sent it to me for review, because as much as I love it, (which I really do!) I cannot recommend it at the retail price it’s being sold at the moment.

Thank you LEGO for sending it for review, views and opinions are my own.

15/04/2024

The LEGO Up House has been on my radar for a very long while but only now have I decided to give it a look and I can understand how this particular product won the 2023 TOTY construction toy of the year. It’s iconic, it’s nostalgic, packs a bunch of play, minifigures and is so darn colourful. Can’t go wrong with that.

I can almost hear the theme song of the movie in my head, and thinking of that opening act has me shedding a tear or two. Carl Russel and Dug are instantly recognisable complete with walking cane and massive backpack. A side build with a few balloons and a squirrel are included, something I actually never noticed the set had, and the house itself is as cute as it could be. A lot of people would probably have preferred a full house rather than the open back situation, but for something adult fans will display on a shelf, the half building works great, and it makes for a cheaper LEGO set.

Interesting build all around with the angled roofs but my favourite technique was the one used for the lime green bay section by the ground floor. Balloons should at least be twice as much but I guess this amount was plenty to convey the movie reference well, as did all of the stickers (sadly) for all of the references than can be found inside the shallow rooms of the house. Lots of portraits, the adventure book or even the cookie jar full of coins for the Paradise Falls trip.

That dark red beam, right in the middle of the back is a bit too clunky but makes for a strong and sturdy place for people who wish to hang the whole thing somewhere.

The price of £49.99/$59.99/€54.99 for a Disney product with 600 pieces isn’t half bad to be honest and together with everything mentioned before makes it an award winning product at the end of the day. Far easier to see when compared to UK’s construction toy award winner, Harry Potter Dobby set, but maybe that’s just me.

Thank you LEGO for sending this for review.

LEGO Flowers may be a weird concept for some, but if you really think about it, its the perfect combination between a very popular gift for special ocasions (actual flowers), the intrinsic nature and value proposition of LEGO (assembling, mindfulness, sharing) combined with the fact that these are plants that will always look beatiful and will never die out.

And considering sales numbers, and the amount of different botanicals LEGO has done up until now, I don’t think they’ll stop doing them any time soon!

The LEGO Cherry Blossoms are yet another of those examples that delives in looks and gift giving purposes at a very affordable price (£12.99/$14.99/€14.99 for 400+ pieces!), and despite the somewhat small box, I was actually really, really, surprised by the size of the models when finished.

Was the build fun? Not really, highly repetitive to be honest but the end result here is it's selling point, not the building experience so yeah, I think LEGO kinda nailed this one. A third or forth branch would have been perfect, but I feel that people who really want the extra copies would have no issues in spending a few more bucks for another box.

I for one, will be gifting some of these away throughout the year for friends and family for sure!

If you buy the new LEGO Ideas Dungeons and Dragons set you'll get the Mimic Dice Box set and a Flower Display as gifts with purchase which isn't half bad if you plan on buying it regardless of offers!

Keep in mind there's also the paper version of the Adventure Guide that goes with the Dungeons and Dragons set as a redeemable reward for 2700 points in the Insiders Reward Center (digital download available for free), but I was also surprised to find there the 2nd Micro Ninjago set already available to redeem as well for slightly "cheaper" than the first one (2300 points).
