His dark thoughts and his struggle against vices and self-destruction have led him to lose himself in a labyrinth of suffering and unhappiness. The protagonist feels imprisoned by his own addictions and struggles to find inner peace and forgiveness.
Despite his efforts to heal and strengthen his spirit, the protagonist lies to himself, searching for calm and meaning in the midst of the storm that consumes him.
