Susan E. Schwartz is a Jungian analyst and clinical psychologist in Arizona, USA and a member of the International Association of Analytical Psychology. I have read some other books on the Absent Father, during my own Academic venture when I was studying Lacan and Derrida and was looking into the Presence/Absence binary, but this books stands out from the rest. It is a quasi-academic work, meant for lay audience and academics alike. The great thing about this book is its accessibility and lucidity.

Dr. Schwartz shows how the childhood trauma of absence of the patriarch runs deep into the female psychology, developing into complexes and syndromes that often times hinder her growth as an adult, and keeps her from finding deeper, connecting meanings in other relationships.

Despite her feministic tone (putting the blame solely on the male figure for his absence), i found the study extremely enjoyable. Recommended if you are into this kinda study.

The stick insect sitting at his stillness
In the little lamp of his belly is an umbrella man
Lost among glittering traffic, and a white head quiet at a problem.

A toad is stone-motion, mould-pride, loam-song -
The jewel in his head is the wisdom of this.
