Muhammad Ali Sadpara was a renowned Pakistani high-altitude mountaineer in the village of Sadpara, near Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. He was the youngest of eleven children, and his family moved to Skardu town.

Sadpara's mountaineering career began as a porter for international climbing expeditions in the 1990s. He eventually became a high-altitude porter and climber, earning recognition as Pakistan's most respected mountaineer.

Throughout his career, Sadpara successfully climbed eight of the world's 14 eight-thousanders, including Gasherbrum II in 2006, Nanga Parbat four times (2008, 2009, 2016 - first winter ascent - and 2017), Gasherbrum I in 2010, Broad Peak Foresummit in 2012, Broad Peak in 2017, K2 in 2018 and Lhotse, Makalu and Manaslu in 2019. He died on K2 in 2021,

One of his most notable achievements was the first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat in 2016, alongside Italian climber Simone Moro and Basque climber Alex Txikon. Sadpara's exceptional climbing skills and physical fitness earned him worldwide recognition, and he became a hero in his native Pakistan.

Sadly, Sadpara went missing on February 5, 2021, while attempting to climb K2 with his son Sajid Ali Sadpara, Icelandic climber John Snorri Sigurjonsson, and Chilean climber Juan Pablo Mohr Prieto.

Reinhold Messner was the first person to climb all 14 of the worldโ€™s peaks over 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) without supplemental oxygen, a feat completed in 1986.

In 1978, along with Peter Habeler, Messner achieved the first ascent of Mount Everest without using supplemental oxygen, proving it was possible to survive at such altitudes unaided.

On this day, 05.01.1950; my friend Krzysztof Wielicki, the Polish climbing maestro, was born. Known as one of the greatest mountaineers, he is the 5th individual to have scaled all 14x8000s, which includes historic first winter climbs of Everest, Kangchenjunga, and Lhotse.
