Former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, recently shared his views on Babar Azam's captaincy in the ongoing 2023 World Cup in India, expressing concerns about the team's performance. During an interview with a local media channel, Afridi stressed the vital role of a captain's leadership and its influence on the overall team dynamics.

According to Afridi, when a captain is fully engaged and proactive on the field, it motivates the entire team to elevate their performance. Drawing from his own experiences, he recalled instances where the active involvement of captains like Mohammad Yousuf and Inzamam-ul-Haq significantly boosted the team's morale and energy levels.

Afridi also highlighted the importance of strategic pressure application by the captain, emphasizing the need for proactive field placements and aggressive gameplay, particularly in critical moments. He acknowledged the challenges and pressures that come with leading the national side, underscoring the mixed public reception that captains often face based on the team's performance.

Noting the upcoming match of the Men in Green against South Africa on October 27th at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Afridi emphasized the need for the team to regroup and demonstrate a more determined and proactive approach to achieve success in the tournament.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir stressed the indispensability of education, as stated by the military's media wing. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that General Munir expressed these views during the commencement of the annual convocation week at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad on Monday.

As the chief guest at the inaugural "Master Convocation Ceremony," the Chairman of NUST Board of Governors, COAS Gen Munir, presented medals to the distinction holders. Throughout the convocation week, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students received their degrees.

The statement indicated that more than 3,500 graduates from all NUST Schools were to be awarded degrees in the seven core disciplines at the main campus.

In his address to the graduates, the army chief extended his warmest congratulations to the graduates, their parents, and the faculty.

He lauded NUST for establishing an environment conducive to teaching and learning, fostering brilliant minds prepared to serve the nation effectively. General Munir underlined that today signifies the start of a new chapter in the students' lives, marking a significant transition that demands greater responsibility.

He emphasized that this elevated responsibility should reflect in their character and decisions as they embark on their journey ahead.

The COAS emphasized that it is now their duty to identify and analyze the challenges confronting the country and apply their intellectual acumen to discover their solutions.

During the Apollo 17 mission in 1972 – the last time people walked on the moon – U.S. astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan collected about 243 pounds (110.4 kg) of soil and rock samples that were returned to Earth for further study.

A half century later, crystals of the mineral zircon inside a coarse-grained igneous rock fragment collected by Schmitt are giving scientists a deeper understanding about the moon’s formation and the precise age of Earth’s celestial partner.

The moon is about 40 million years older than previously thought – forming more than 4.46 billion years ago, within 110 million years after the solar system’s birth, scientists said on Monday, based on analyses of the crystals.

The senior journalist and former ARY News anchor was killed in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on October 23 where he was living in self-exile.

Kenyan police first said that Arshad Sharif was killed in a case of “mistaken identity” but since the seasoned journalist’s post-mortem and his body’s transfer to his home country, several Kenyan news outlets not only questioned the police’s conduct but also raised questions over the manner in which he was killed.

The case of the slain journalist is currently under trial in the Supreme Court.

Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan's opening batsman, has been ruled out of the team's fifth match of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup against Afghanistan on October 23 due to a knee injury.

Zaman, 33, was replaced by Abdullah Shafique in Pakistan's second World Cup game against Sri Lanka. He has not been able to fully recover from his knee injury and will not be available for selection against Afghanistan.

Pakistan's team management is confident that Zaman will be available for the match against South Africa on October 27. All other players are fit and available for selection against Afghanistan.

Pakistan is currently having a tough time in the World Cup after suffering back-to-back defeats against India and Australia. Pakistan's match against Afghanistan is a must-win for the team. Any outcome other than a victory would make it difficult for Pakistan to qualify for the semifinals.

In an anticipated ODI World Cup clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 23, Afghanistan and Pakistan are set to face off. Former Pakistan captain, Ramiz Raja, expressed his opinion on the upcoming match, giving Afghanistan the edge as favourites on a spin-friendly wicket.

Having begun their tournament with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s momentum took a hit with defeats against India and Australia. Raja shed light on Pakistan’s struggle against spinners in the ODI World Cup 2023.
The former PCB chief emphasized that the Men in Green appeared uneasy against spin bowling.

With the MA Chidambaram Stadium known for favoring spinners and Afghanistan boasting a formidable spin trio led by Rashid Khan, Raja believes that Pakistan’s batters will face challenges in playing freely.

Raja expressed doubt about Pakistan’s ability to make a turnaround in the upcoming match against Afghanistan.

“Making a comeback will be tough for Pakistan. The upcoming match in Chennai against Afghanistan is unpredictable. Considering Pakistan batters’ struggle with spin, anything might unfold. If the pitch favours spin, Afghanistan seems to have a slight edge as favourites,” Raja said on his YouTube channel.

Imad Wasim, the all-rounder, has expressed his disappointment with Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, following their loss to Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In their pursuit of a challenging 368-run target set by Australia, Babar's leadership and individual performance came under scrutiny as Pakistan fell short by 62 runs, with Babar himself being dismissed for just 18 runs in 14 balls.

During an interview on a local TV channel, Imad Wasim pointed out that Babar Azam has not led Pakistan to a victory against a major team since 2019. Wasim highlighted that while there is considerable pressure at the world stage, it is also the platform to demonstrate one's capabilities.

He noted that the last significant match where Babar excelled was against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup when he scored a century. However, since then, he has not managed to secure a win in a major match for Pakistan. Wasim framed his comments as a factual observation rather than criticism.
