Major General Julian Moazzam James has become the first Christian Commando from the Special Service Group (SSG) & the third Christian to attain the rank of Major General from the Pakistan Army.

Born in Narowal district of Punjab, Major General Julian Moazzam James was commissioned into the Air Defense Regiment before joining the SSG. He is a graduate of the 92nd Long Course.

He has commanded the SSG Brigade in Tarbela and the Air Defense Brigade in Sargodha and served as a Defense Attaché in Nigeria for three years. He has done Air Defense Staff Course, Intelligence Staff Course, Pakistan Staff Course, and the National Security War Course.

Major General Julian Moazzam James' elder brother, Farukh James, also served in the Army and retired as a Major.

Before Major General Julian Moazzam James, Christian officers who reached the rank of General in the Pakistan Army included Major General Noel Israel Khokhar and Major General Julian Peter, both now retired.

The six Christian officers who have attained ranks equivalent to General are Air Vice Marshal Eric G. Hall (Sitara-e-Jurat and Sitara-e-Basalat), Air Vice Marshal Michael John O'Brien (Tamgha-e-Jurat and Sitara-e-Basalat), Air Admiral Norman Min Goon (Sitara-e-Basalat and Sitara-e-Imtiaz Military), the late Major General Peter Julian, Major General Noel Israel Khokhar, and Major General Julian Moazzam James.

Dr. Isaac Asher, a close associate of Major General Julian James, described his promotion to Major General as a proud moment for James, his family, and the Christian community in Pakistan. In an interview with Independent Urdu, he stated, "The promotion of a Christian commando on merit is a historic milestone for Pakistan's Armed Forces. Major General Julian Moazzam James has made history as the first Christian commando officer of the elite Special Services Group in the 76-year history of the Pakistan Army."
