It was less than a million at the time of the first national Census in 1951. Its population today is estimated to be well over 10 million. Like all big cities with a high rate of growth, Lahore has its share of problems. Those who are managing its various services and facilities like Governance, Policing, education and health, water – supply, sanitation, environment protection, etc, etc are greatl
y stressed. Their best efforts fall significantly short of the expectations of an ever demanding and growing population. The citizen has become progressively more aware. He demands what he must have and when he receives less, he is more than upset. The Government and the Private sector facilities and services are in–variably insufficient, less–efficient, of a lower quality and available at a higher cost than what shall satisfy the citizen. This is precisely where the media has an important role. First of all, it has a responsibility in creating and increasing awareness of correct facts. Secondly, it has to articulate public issues and to make the respective positions of the Government and the citizen's known and understood by them. Thirdly, it provides a platform for those who offer services and facilities and the citizens who use these. Comments, views and observations are very important for the providers and recipients to share. That is what sets the stage for growth, progress and improvement. And media is the name of that stage. The Dunya Media Group has launched the "Lahore News" with precisely the same objectives as aforesaid. It hopes to fill its role with all due effort and care. And it hopes that its contribution shall, insha Allah, make Lahore a safer, a cleaner, an healthier, a better educated and above all – a happier place. At the Lahore News we believe that Lahore is the most important part of our Dunya and we plan to work towards making it truly the same for everyone of us.
