The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday ordered to register an FIR of a gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan within 24 hours.

The orders were passed by the five-member SC bench headed by CJP Justice Umar Ata Bandial while hearing the contempt case against the former prime minister.

During the hearing, CJP Bandial asked the IGP Punjab how much time he need to file the FIR of the incident.

“Tell me in how much time will the FIR of the attack be filed.”

The CJP observed that the delay in FIRs means evidence is being lost, and the SC will ensure the smooth running of the criminal justice system, the CJP remarked.

A day after surviving an attempted assassination, PTI Chairman Imran Khan met with Ibtisam, the man who foiled the attack and apprehended the shooter during PTI's long march in Wazirabad.

Khan met with Ibtisam at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore where he is being treated for the bullet wounds which pierced through his lower limbs, causing a fracture.

"You are Pakistan's hero. You showed immense courage. It felt very nice," Khan told Ibtisam when meeting him in his hospital room while the staff looked on.

After being shot and injured in an assassination attempt while standing atop a container during his long march, PTI Chairman Imran Khan finally decided to break his silence and said that he had learned about the looming danger beforehand.

"I had already learned that there was a plan in place to kill me somewhere between Wazirabad and Gujrat," Khan said as he spoke during a televised address while still being admitted at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Providing details of how "they" planned to assassinate him, Khan said, "they used similar methods they tried using against [former Punjab governor] Salman Taseer".

A district court in Lahore sent former deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari to jail on judicial remand.

The court sent the PTI MPA to jail after it rejected Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab’s request for a remand.

Mazari was presented in court after the completion of his two-day remand.

Last week, ACE Punjab had arrested the former deputy speaker of the provincial assembly in an alleged land encroachment case.
