NPTV: Your parents were teachers?
Grégoire Brault: My mother was a teacher of biology, in middle and high school. And my father was school director and teacher, he taught younger kids. They lived in Morocco for 10 years, then three years in Cameroon. They then came back to France to finish their careers.
NPTV: Was Pakistan a choice?
Grégoire Brault: It was a choice. I was not compelled at all. I wanted to come. I didn’t know very well this region. I had travelled a little and had visited Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
And when the vacancy opened for Pakistan, I contacted the previous director Mr. Gilles Pascal and asked him how it was here? He replied that it was a very beautiful Alliance! And it was a very enviable position.
So this is why I asked to come to Pakistan. And I am here since September, 2021.
NPTV: People in France know about Pakistan?
Grégoire Brault: There has been strong links between France and Pakistan. As all of us know that there had been some problems in the early years of 2000. But I think that since then the relationship between the two countries have been peaceful. Pakistan came back to the French thought system. However, generally I think that French have a quite positive idea of Pakistan and Karachi.
NPTV: How many branches of Alliance Françaises are operating in the world?
Grégoire Brault: Now there are about 800 or 810 Alliance Françaises operating in the world. There are some that close each year, and some others that open. So it is about 800 in 130 countries: the vitality and the Alliances are going on. Despite the COVID, when it was very complicated, we were observing that there was a desire to learn French. So the Alliances continue developing French teaching and French culture. This is something that remains important in the Francophone landscape.

KARACHI: Dynamic Consul General Danilo Giurdanella, spearheading the Italian diplomatic mission in the Port City, welcomed the Karachiites and expatriates at Grand Ballroom of the iconic Pearl Continental at an Iftar dinner here on Monday (17th of April, 2023).

This was second such event that the active Consul General Danilo Giurdanella hosted during his tenure here with an objective of observing the holy month of Ramazan as well as promoting inter-faith harmony.
Guests, who converged there, included Clerics of diverse faiths, Media Personnel, Literati, Diplomats, Politicians, Entrepreneurs, Civil and Military Bureaucrats.
Conspicuous among others there were CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, and MD Karachi Shipyard Rear Admiral Salman Ilyas.
Addressing the ladies and gentlemen in the audience Consul General Danilo Giurdanella – duly clad in traditional Pakistani attire – said it was a great experience to fast during the holy month of Ramazan.
Italian diplomat mused that fasting was a mélange of physical as well as spiritual struggle:
“The physical difficulties that come about from the sacrifices of abstinence from food, drink, and other enjoyments of life enable the soul to attain spiritual enhancement.
“Ramazan is a clear reflection of this very concept. It entails sacrifice; sacrifice of the mind, body and soul and advocates for good mannerism, humility, and generosity.
“Pointing towards Islamophobia the Italian diplomat held that Islam needed to be better known to the world in order to fight misconceptions”.

US-Funded Flood Response Program In Sindh
MIRPUR KHAS: US Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Andrew Schofer led a team of US officials to the Province of Sindh on Monday (27th day of Feb 2023) to visit US-funded programs that are helping Pakistanis address nutrition, health, and protection challenges caused by the devastating 2022 floods. The United States has committed more than $200 million in flood relief, disaster resilience, food security support for Pakistan and continues to actively support recovery. DCM Schofer and other US officials visited a rural health facility in Mirpur Khas, where UNICEF is providing nutrition and health services with US government funding through USAID).
DCM Schofer met UNICEF representatives to better understand how the floods have impacted the overall health situation in Pakistan and to discuss malnutrition concerns.He also observed the health care services provided to flood-affected populations, including the distribution of US-funded specialized foods to treat severe acute malnutrition. DCM Schofer also traveled to Geo Koloye village, where additional US-supported health and nutrition services are provided by UNICEF through a mobile clinic. PS: UNICEF is also raising awareness about child protection and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response services for flood-affected communities at this site.

The 27th edition of the prestigious Ragusani nel Mondo Prize has been bestowed (at Piazza Libertà in Ragusa in Italy) on 30th of July, 2022 upon Danilo Giurdanella, Italian Consul General posted in Karachi (Pakistan).
Danilo Giurdanella has been awarded the coveted Ragusani nel Mondo at such a young age in recognition of his extraordinary efforts, passion and the sacrifices he made.
Danilo Giurdanella was born in Ragusa, Italy in 1980.
He graduated with honors in International Law from the Academy of International Law in The Hague, and in the field of European Law at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
He went on to work for the European Commission from 2009-2014 handling ITC competition policies and transport.
From then onwards, Danilo Giurdanella officially took part in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Italy, dealing with the promotion and protection of Human Rights.
From 2016 to 2020, Danilo Giurdanella was appointed as the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Italy in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
From September 2018, Danilo Giurdanella has been serving as the Consul General of Italy in Karachi.
Giurdanella has been playing active part to augment bilateral relations between Italy and Pakistan.
He oversees relations with the local government in political, economic, commercial, social and cultural terms.
He speaks five languages and is passionate about International Relations and Literature.

The project, which is starting from Karachi and Lahore, will target women of different age groups and stages of patient journey, by providing door-to-door awareness, free of cost screening and guidance for timely referral options by trained doctors at Greenstar clinics. KARACHI: Italian Istituto Giannina Gaslini and Child Life Foundation join hands to serve sick/poor children of Pakistan.
Consulate General of Italy here, the Istituto Giannina Gaslini (largest pediatric care hospital in Northern Italy) and Child Life Foundation are promoting an important co-operation in the field of Children Health Care with the objective of saving lives through better use of pediatric emergency rooms and telemedicine services.
Following an adopt-and-operate model, the objective of the co-operation is to modernize and manage children’s ERs of government tertiary care hospitals, where the sickest and poorest children can access quality care 24/7.
In particular, Child Life and Gaslini have identified a series of projects aimed at strengthening children’s healthcare. They plan to collaborate on the following initiatives:
I. Training – Jointly develop and conduct training courses for health professionals. Approximately 500 doctors will be trained over the next three years.
II. Telemedicine – Sharing best practices of Telemedicine by both parties to improve and expand their respective Telemedicine network.
In this regard an MoU signing ceremony was hosted on Tuesday (8th of November, 2022) here by Sohail Tabba, Founding trustee of the Child Life Foundation.
