86-Year-Old Malawian Man Uses His Life Savings to Build a Mosque for His Community

Mangochi District, Malawi — At 86 years old, Chikhwaya Kamuloni has demonstrated that meaningful acts of service have no age limit.

According to reports, Kamuloni spent 35 million Malawian Kwacha (approximately US$20,200) from his personal savings to build a permanent mosque for the Muslim community in Chilombo Village, near Monkey Bay in Mangochi District.

The idea came after he saw local Muslims worshipping in a temporary structure. Wanting to provide the community with a proper place of worship, he decided to personally finance the construction.

Construction reportedly began in September 2025 and continued for around 11 months, with the project completed without financial assistance from outside donors.

For Kamuloni, the mosque represents more than a building. He described it as a way of thanking Allah for blessing him with good health and allowing him to reach the age of 86. Instead of keeping his savings solely for himself, he chose to invest them in something he believed would benefit his community for generations.

The newly completed mosque was officially handed over to the community during a ceremony on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

A 15-year-old Palestinian girl, Hoor Abdeen, from Al-Ram, north of Jerusalem, has drawn widespread attention after successfully reciting the entire Holy Quran from memory in a single continuous session.

Thirteen-year-old Musab Hussain from Gournadi, Barishal, Bangladesh, has achieved a remarkable milestone by memorizing all 30 Juz (parts) of the Holy Quran in just 73 days in August 2026.
