Indians jailed for spying on Qatar for Israel

Eight Indian nationals have been imprisoned in Qatar for months for spying on a submarine programme on behalf of Israel and could potentially face the death penalty, according to media reports.

The eight individuals are former officers in the Indian Navy and were arrested in late August, according to reports by Indian, Pakistani, Israeli and Arab media outlets.
New Delhi has had consular access to the eight prisoners and has tried to secure their release, but has been told by Doha that evidence suggests the former officers passed on intelligence to Israel, Indian news outlet ThePrint reported.

The Indian nationals had their first trial in late March, and another session is reportedly expected to be held this month. Indian media reported that they were senior employees of Dahra Global Technologies and Consulting Services, a company advising on a Qatari programme aimed at obtaining high-tech Italian-made submarines that could evade radar detection.

Pakistani newspaper The News International reported last week that the company is now being shut down by Qatar, with as many as 75 Indian nationals, the majority of whom are former navy personnel, being told they were being let go by the end of May.

Qatar had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2020 with Italian-based shipbuilding firm Fincantieri SpA to build submarines as part of a larger project involving the construction of a naval base and maintenance of its military fleet. The MoU has reportedly not been implemented.
The submarines that Qatar is seeking are reportedly a smaller variety of the U212 Near Future Submarine, an ambitious submarine project in Italy built in cooperation with a German firm.

Israel has not officially commented on the issue, but it has stakes in preventing the development of military technologies across the Middle East, as it fears it could undercut its United States-backed military edge. India and Pakistan are also interested in the submarine race as they seek to block each other from getting the upper hand.

The Pakistan Navy already operates midget submarines built by Italy and enjoys increasingly close ties with Qatar, while India is concerned about Pakistan potentially looking to acquire stealth technologies embedded in the new submarines.

Last year, when no details about the reason for the arrest of the eight Indian nationals had been publicised, Indian media had accused Pakistan of trying to “muddy the waters” with misleading reports. Some Indian media outlets had even hinted at a Pakistani role in the arrests, citing social media posts online that speculated about the case.

Missing Pakistan Navy Officer

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought reply from naval authorities and the Margalla police station on a petition seeking the recovery of a ‘missing’ naval officer.

The petition cited the secretary defence, commanding officer PNS Zafar and the station house officer Margalla as respondents. IHC Justice Arbab Mohammad Tahir after initial hearing issued notices to the naval authorities and the SHO and sought their reply by April 26.

The petition stated that Lieutenant Hafiz Mohammad Habibullah was inducted in Pakistan Navy and after completion of his initial training from Pakistan Naval Academy, PNS Rahbar and grant of short service commission, he was transferred to PNS Zafar on Sept 11, 2019.
According to the petition, the officer was in mental stress because of the behaviour of his seniors.

On Sept 14, 2022, the Naval Intelligence arrested him. He was released after one day and was again picked up on October 26, 2022 and was released after two days.

The petition said that the commanding officer forced the officer to resign from service. However, the officer filed a representation before the competent authority under section 23 of the Pakistan Navy Ordinance 1961 against alleged ill-treatment meted out to him.

On April 12, 2023, the officer went to his office in PNS Zafar as per his routine. At around 2pm, he sent a message to his father that he was being called by his commanding officer, the petition said, adding that after a few hours when the officer did not come back to his home his father tried to contact him but to no avail.

His father went to the office at PNS Zafar but the staff expressed ignorance about his whereabouts. The commanding officer also declined his request of meeting, the petition added. He then went to the police station Margalla to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) regarding missing of his son.

The police officials contacted the Naval Police about the matter and on their instruction refused to entertain his application seeking registration of the FIR, the petition added. It requested the court to issue direction to the naval authorities and police to recover the officer.

Is China becoming the new "Game Changer" of Middle East and Asia?

China has just made two oil rivals of the middle east to shake hands with each other. one is Saudi Arabia and the other is Iran, who had their embassies closed seven years ago due to their differences, have now agreed to open their embassies again. Iran is said to be the biggest rival of united states in the middle east and its biggest ally is Saudi Arabia, but some how both have agreed to shake hands and the broker for all this is China, which is said to be the second super power after America.
It can be seen that US is loosing its grip on the world politics and the decision making power it had in the past. Right after the with drawl of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan, many people think that the US has gone weak and don't really have the compacity to confront anyone regardless of what they say.
Russia was also quick to invade Ukraine which was on the track to become a NATO member which the Russians saw as a threat because it would allow the NATO alliance to bring its weaponry in Ukraine right next door to Russia, after the US withdrawl from Afghanistan the Russians knew America has become a bit weak and it is their turn to make a move and secure its border and they did.
Now what China has done has made it clear that US does not have the decision making power anymore because it has somehow convinced the long lasting ally of US to become friends with its biggest enemy (Iran), whose serving Major General was also killed by a US drone strike which caused a war like situation between the two. China is a major economic power of the world, there is also a possibility that Iran and Saudia both might become a part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. lets see how much influence can China gain in Middle East and Asia.

Pakistan Day Parade 23 March 2023
Pakistan Army has decided to hold the annual parade of the armed forces on the eve of the Pakistan Day on a limited scale, joining the government’s austerity drive that aims at warding off the economic crisis.
The military parade is observed each year on March 23. The event is at the center of celebrations to commemorate a 1940 Lahore Resolution that called for the establishment of an independent country for the Muslims of British-ruled India.
Thousands of Pakistanis used to gather at Shakarparian ground in Islamabad every year to celebrate the day and watch the glorious display of the country’s military power and cultural diversity.
