Dubai could be home to a Moon - themed luxury resort built at an estimated cost of US $ 5 billion before the end of this decade , Arabian Business reported this week . The concept for the resort comes from the Canadian architectural company , Moon World Resorts Inc ( MWR ) .

The city of Dubai is no stranger to ambitious architectural projects . Last month , we reported how plans were being drawn for a suspended city around the iconic Burj Khalifa , currently the tallest building in the world The City has showcased its ability to take on architectural challenges by completing the Palm Jumeirah and keeps unveiling tiny projects along the way , such as the world's largest Ferris Wheel . So , it is not exactly a moonshot when Dubai thinks of building a Moon styled resort as well .

What will the resort offer ?
Although the details of the project are still scanty , the ambitious project is expected to have an overall height of 735 feet ( 224 m ) .

Occupying an area of 10 acres or 435,600 sq feet , the resort promises an authentic " lunar colony " . We do not quite exactly know what that means as of now but reports suggest that the area will offer standard hospitality services such as hotel rooms , wellness center , nightclub , a meeting place and a " moon shuttle " , which piques curiosity but offers very little to satisfy it . In addition to offering uxuries of the Earth in a lunar setting , the place is also meant to serve as a hub for space exploration , providing a platform for space agencies to train their astronauts , Arabian Business said in its report .

Cousin Marriages?

In Pakistan, over 60% of marriages are between first or second cousins
In addition to socioeconomic reasons, these marriages are socially acceptable because they facilitate prenuptial negotiations and provide more compatibility between the husband and wife as well as the bride and the mother-in-law.

Hackers caused a major traffic jam in Moscow after exploiting the Russian ride-hailing app, Yandex Taxi, to summon dozens of taxis to the same location at the same time (via Vice). The attack occurred on September 1st and had traffic heading towards Kutuzovsky Prospect — an already busy boulevard — stuck at a standstill

A video showing lines of taxis seemingly trying to get to the same destination was shared widely on Twitter and Reddit on Thursday. While Moscow is known for its heavy traffic — it ranked number two as the world’s most congested city in the world last year — this incident wasn’t related to the capital city’s typical traffic patterns.

On the morning of September 1, Yandex.Taxi encountered an attempt by attackers to disrupt the service — several dozen drivers received bulk orders to the Fili region,” Yandex spokesperson Polina Pestova said in a statement to The Verge. The ride-hailing service, which is owned by the Russian internet giant, Yandex, added that the jam lasted less than an hour, and that its “algorithm for detecting and preventing such attacks has already been improved to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

Who Is Liz Truss?

It is essential to note that Liz Truss was not elected in a country-wide election. Truss was elected as leader of the governing Conservative Party after the resignation of her predecessor, Boris Johnson.

She is therefore prime minister by virtue of her leadership of the governing party, not from a public mandate brought by a national election. She was elected by more than 160,000 Conservative Party members – or 0.3 percent of the U.K.’s voting public – so her recent rhetoric has been geared toward convincing a small subset of the U.K.

population that she was leadership material. As prime minister, she has to convince the entire U.K. public that she is doing a good job.

01/09/2022

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) stressed the need for providing healthcare facilities to almost 650,000 pregnant women in flood-affected areas in Pakistan.

In a statement, the UNFPA said that it estimated that almost 650,000 pregnant women in the flood-affected areas require maternal health services to ensure a safe pregnancy and childbirth.

“Up to 73,000 women expected to deliver next month will need skilled birth attendants, newborn care, and support,” says the UN agency.

In addition to this, many women and girls are at an increased risk of gender-based violence (GBV) as almost 1 million houses have been damaged.

Of the 6.4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance following the monsoon rains, floods, and landslides in Pakistan, more than 1.6 million are women of childbearing age, said the UNFPA.

The Pakistan government, however, estimates that around 33 million people across the country are affected, including an estimated 8.2 million women of reproductive age.

‘Pregnancies can’t wait for emergencies to be over’
“Pregnancies and childbirth can’t wait for emergencies or natural disasters to be over. This is when a woman and baby are vulnerable and need the most care. UNFPA is on the ground, working with partners, to ensure that pregnant women and new mothers continue receiving life-saving services even under the most challenging conditions,” says UNFPA Pakistan Representative Dr Bakhtior Kadirov.

More than 1,000 health facilities are either partially or fully damaged in Sindh province, whereas 198 health facilities are damaged in affected districts in Balochistan, Kadirov said, adding that the damage to roads and bridges has also compromised girls' and women's access to health facilities.

“We will continue supporting health facilities with the equipment and human resources to be fully operational despite the challenging humanitarian conditions,” Kadirov added.

The official maintained that the UNFPA is scaling up its emergency response to provide life-saving reproductive health services and commodities, including dignity kits, for women and girls.

UNFPA Pakistan has, so far, procured 8,311 dignity kits, 7,411 Newborn Baby Kits, and 6,412 Clean Delivery Kits for immediate delivery to Sindh, Balochistan, KP, and Punjab, Kadirov added.

The State Bank of Pakistan on Wednesday received the $1.16 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to a statement issued by the SBP, the $1.16 billion loan, approved in the seventh and eighth reviews from IMF, has been received by the central bank.

The IMF board approved the seventh and eighth reviews of Pakistan’s Extended Fund Facility Programme (EFF), Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said in a tweet on Monday.

“The IMF Board has approved the revival of our EFF program. We should now be getting the 7th & 8th tranche of $1.17 billion,” Miftah Ismail said on Twitter.

Moreover, the IMF Executive Board stalled the loan program for Pakistan and extended its volume to $6.5 billion from an earlier amount of $6 billion.

The Fund in a press release announced that the executive board completed the combined seventh and eighth reviews of the “extended arrangement” under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for Pakistan.

“The board’s decision allows for an immediate disbursement of SDR 894 million (about $1.1 billion), bringing total purchases for budget support under the arrangement to about US$3.9 billion,” the statement read.

30/08/2022

Pakistan needs more than $10 billion to repair and rebuild infrastructure damaged by monsoon rains that have caused devastating flooding, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Tuesday.

“Massive damage has been caused to infrastructure — especially in the areas of telecommunications, roads, agriculture and livelihoods,” he told AFP.

Iqbal’s statements are a reiteration of an assessment he shared with Reuters a day earlier, where he said he believed that the cost of the damage caused by floods would be “huge”.

“So far, [a] very early, preliminary estimate is that it is big, it is higher than $10 billion,” Iqbal said, adding that there was damage to almost nearly one million houses“.

“People have actually lost their complete livelihoods,” he continued, rating the recent floods worst than those that hit Pakistan in 2010.

The minister said it might take five years to rebuild and rehabilitate the nation, while in the near term it will be confronted with acute food shortages.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui never fails to impress his fans with his top-notch acting skills. He is regarded as one of India's best performers, and has not only established himself as one of the finest but has also earned a name for himself in Hollywood. The Sacred Games actor is back again to rule the internet as a few days back, he announced his new project titled Haddi, in which, he will play a woman and a transgender. Now, in a recent interview with Bombay Times, Nawazuddin revealed that his daughter was 'very upset' when she saw him dressed as a woman.

The Badlapur actor said, "She now knows that it’s for a role and is fine now. I must say this, after this experience, I have huge respect for actresses who do this on a daily basis. Itna saara taam jhaam hota hai. Hair, make-up, kapde, nails... pura sansar leke chalna padta hai. Now I know why an actress may take longer than her male counterpart to get out of her vanity van. It’s absolutely justified. I will have more patience now!”

Further, Nawazuddin added that if he plays a female character, he will need to think like a woman and that’s his test as an actor. He said that the outfit, hair, and make-up, are not his concern as there are experts to look into it and they know their job. He said his concern is to get the internal thought process right. "What do women think? What do they want? An actor’s job is to get into the head of the character he plays. Your perception, outlook towards life as a woman is bound to be different and that is the most difficult part about Haddi for me. Ek aurat ke nazariyese duniya dekhni hogi. The film is not about costumes and gestures. The process is more internal," he added.

Today’s computer chips feature billions of transistors on a square of silicon about the size of your thumbnail.

By 2030, Intel aims to increase that number to about a trillion.

Tahir Ghani, Intel senior fellow and director of process pathfinding in Intel’s Technology Development Group, is behind those plans.

In his 28-year career at Intel, Tahir has filed more than 1,000 patents and led teams responsible for some of the most revolutionary changes in transistors. Innovations from his teams include strained silicon, High-K metal gate, FinFet transistors and, most recently, RibbonFET transistors.

For his accomplishments, Tahir is honored as Intel’s 2022 Inventor of the Year.

“For his entire nearly 30-year career, Tahir has role-modeled this relentless commitment to technology innovation in pursuit of Moore’s Law,” says Sanjay Natarajan, Intel senior vice president and co-GM of Logic Technology Development. “His contribution to semiconductor technology is enormous, and I am proud to call him one of the industry’s greatest inventors.”

While many experts in industry and academia have predicted the demise of Moore’s Law, Tahir says Intel has new ideas that keep it alive.

“It won’t die on my watch,” says Tahir, who works at Intel’s Gordon Moore Park campus in Hillsboro, Oregon. “Moore’s Law only stops when innovation stops.”

Despite severe warnings of flash floods, Nowshera remained safe during a very high flood and high casualties were avoided because of proactiveness of ADC Nowshera, Qurat Al-Ain Wazir and her team.

Her professionalism on the field avoided a massive loss. She did whatsoever was possible in her power to evacuate the residents of nearby communities of Kabul River.

ADC Nowshera went door to door with the Law enforcement officials, evacuated houses, shifted people to the safest places and also went to mosques for public announcements. Her extraordinary commitment to her duty saved many lives and the city.
This lady is better than those political leaders of this country who divert the attention of the media from the flood to themselves for their votes, instead of rallying the people to help the flood victims.

28/08/2022

The United Nations will on Tuesday launch a $160 million Flash Appeal to help millions of people affected by unprecedented monsoon rains in Pakistan that triggered massive floods.

Foreign Office spokesman Asim Iftikhar, at his weekly media briefing, said: “A UN Flash Appeal is going to be launched on Tuesday 30 August simultaneously from Geneva and Islamabad.” He said the UN flash appeal was very significant, and it would trigger the international community’s response as well as bilateral assistance from other countries.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his interaction with a group of envoys and diplomats on Friday said the government was reaching out to the friendly countries, donors and the international financial institutions for their continued cooperation at this difficult time. The meeting was attended by ambassadors and high commissioners of Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Kuwait, the UAE, Turkiye, South Korea, the US, and Germany. Senior diplomats of Bahrain, European Union, France, Oman, Qatar, the UK, and Saudi Arabia and the country representative of World Food Programme (WFP) were also present.

The international community’s response to the government’s appeal has been slow so far, while nearly 1,000 people, including 300 children, have lost their lives because of the rains and resulting flooding that impacted nearly 33 million people – almost 15 per cent of the country’s population.

Flash Appeals are made in response to sudden onset of disasters, when the government lacks the capacity to give a coordinated response and any single UN agency too cannot respond to the situation. The appeals fund urgent humanitarian needs normally for up to six months.

UN Resident Coordinator’s office and National Disaster Management Authority collaborated for the assessment of the needs on the basis of which the appeal would be launched.

27/08/2022

Italian sports car maker Lamborghini has already pre-sold the entire production run to early 2024, its boss told AFP on Tuesday, with luxury goods seemingly unaffected by global economic uncertainty.

The Volkswagen subsidiary is enjoying “high demand” and has an order book covering the next 18 months, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said.

Wealthy customers are flocking to the brand despite the global financial fallout from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“We have more and more stepping into Lamborghini. Because they trust the brand, they see how beautiful the cars are, how (high) performing they are,” Winkelmann said.

The global economy only has to “stay a bit stable” for that to continue, he added.

The long order times are also the result of a shortage of components, particularly chips needed for new electric models.

Lamborghini is planning a hybrid version of each of its models by 2024 and the first fully electric Lamborghini in the second half of the decade.

This is “a lot in just two years” and the company is doing “as much as we can, as fast as we can to keep all the things updated and rolling in a positive way”, Winkelmann said.

Lamborghini in early August reported the best half-year in its history with record sales and profits.

The carmaker’s operating margin reached 32 percent, while operating profit jumped to 425 million euros on 5,090 cars sold.

Similar to this, the tax on to***co has raised by 3,800% from Rs. 10 per kg to Rs. 380 per kg. According to Miftah, the tax on ci******es falls under excise tax, whereas the tax on to***co is a cess (tax).
