On this day in 1915, the historic Carpenter Agreement was signed, marking a new chapter in Sulu’s governance. But Sulu’s story did not begin there—it stretches back to the days of the Sultanate of Sulu (1405), a powerful kingdom that thrived in trade, diplomacy, and resistance against foreign invasions.

From the legendary Rajah Baguinda, who spread Islam to Sulu’s shores, to the brave Moro warriors who stood against colonization, to the vibrant Tausug culture that continues to shine today—Sulu remains a beacon of strength and identity.

As a staunch advocate for clean elections and a key proponent of the People Power movement, he dedicated his life to the ideals that would later fuel the spirit of EDSA. On February 11, 1986, he was tragically assassinated while defending the sanctity of the electoral process, but his bravery became a spark of hope that inspired millions to stand up for freedom.
