Presently, the sustainable development goals are in stagnation in the face of multiple crises. This global goal can only be met if we work together.

Despite the pressing challenges, efforts to improve the environment and resources in Western Mindanao, are gaining momentum through collaborative initiatives led by WESMAARRDEC. This organization partners with various stakeholders to address pressing challenges and work towards a better future. Stakeholders are encouraged to share knowledge, improve abilities, and find solutions to problems. Like the "Raise Program," a noteworthy collaboration that helps locals in the region use new technologies, start businesses, and exchange valuable ideas.

𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝟏𝟔: Peace, justice and strong institutions by 2030. These are the important conduits for sustainable development. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals aim to promote peaceful inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.

While some regions have experienced sustained peace and security, many countries still face protracted violence and weak institutions. This leaves countless people without access to justice, information, or freedom.

Despite significant challenges, a youth-led organization, the Youth Solidarity for Peace (YSP) has been leading the charge for peace and unity among diverse youth groups. Through peace training, ‘Why Speak for Peace’ sessions, and annual Youth Peace Camps, YSP cultivates a culture of peace and inclusivity. Despite funding challenges, YSP remains dedicated to fostering inclusivity, unity, and peace through education and community involvement.

𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝟏𝟓: Life on land by 2030. A flourishing life on land is the foundation for our life on this planet. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals seek to protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss.

Our forests are home to more than 80% of all land-based species and our remarkable ecosystems provide us with the means to eat, breathe, and live. Yet deforestation, global warming, loss of natural habitats, and land degradation, have caused severe damage to the world and its inhabitants.

Amidst these present issues, the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources proposed a Waste Management program that aims for a better community, promoting proper waste disposal. The program was initiated due to the pressing issues of waste. It involves the stakeholders, non-governmental organizations, and members of the community.

𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝟏𝟒: Life below water by 2030. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals aim to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources. It aims to prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds.

Nowadays, overfishing, illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, destructive fishing practices and ocean acidification have become prevalent.

Amidst the obstacles, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region IX has been envisioning to have a gender-equitable and socially-inclusive institution that excels in climate-adaptive and sustainable fisheries and aquatic resources management, providing quality service towards food fish sufficiency, food security, and improved lives of fisherfolk by 2040.
