After three years of foregoing the annual celebration of excellence, the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 concludes the academic year with a grandiose ceremony, to acknowledge the brilliance of the CTE Dolphins in both academic and non-academic facets.

With the theme "𝘞𝘔𝘚𝘜 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 2023: 𝘈 𝘛𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘈𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘘𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦". This milestone will serve as a continued catalyst for unparalleled competence and brilliance in the world of higher education.

The College of Teacher Education's Academic and Non-Academic awardees proudly filled the Juanito Bruno Gymnasium as the college celebrates and conducts its Recognition Day on May 9, 2023.

With the theme, "WMSU graduates 2023: A Testament of Academic Excellence and Commitment for a World Class Professional and Quality Service," Dean's listers and non-academic awardees from first to fourth year were given acknowledgment for their performance throughout their academic journey for the A.Y. 2022-2023.

This was followed by Prof. Floramie S. Ramiro, the President of the CTE Faculty Club, who introduced the Guest Speaker, Mr. Abdulaziz Hajimin Dapilin, a CTE alumnus and Top 9 during the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) 2017.

The giving of awards was then led by the CTE Dean, Dr. Ricardo A. Somblingo.

A total of 412 dean's listers were awarded during the aforementioned event. 160 students from freshmen, 112 from sophomores, 75 from junior, and 65 from senior year. The Young Researcher award was presented to 47 students who showed excellence in their research endeavors, and the Proficiency in Teaching award was given to 62 graduating students who gained a grade of 1.0-1.25 in their teaching internship. In addition, 11 students were awarded for the Demo Fiesta 2022.

Other Non-Academic awards were also given for both graduating and non-graduating students such as Leadership (40), Service (77), Theater (1), Musical (6), Journalism (1), Visual (1), and Athletics Awards (2).

The CTE Class Valedictorian Batch 2023, Ms. Katreena Gayle A. Lao, who will be graduating Summa Cum Laude with a General Weighted Average of 1.1592, gave her speech after the awarding ceremony.

Finally, the event was concluded with the closing remarks given by the CTE Gender Club Adviser, Mr. Robert O. Parcon. The event was concluded by the singing of the WMSU hymn.

With the joined support and efforts of the CTE students, CTE-CSC, and CTE Faculty, this academic year-end event was made possible.

Indeed, this continues to prove that students from the College of Teacher Education are molded with commitment, passion, and above all, excellence.

On the 14th of April, the Sirens Publication acquaints with the WMSU Law Students Association to cover and witness the grandest proclamation of results of the Bar Examination 2022.

Grace after pressure.

The heat is on at the College of Law, Western Mindanao State University for the results of the 2022 Bar Examination, where 54 successful examinees are now Crimson Lawyers.

The WMSU Law Student Association (LSA) spearheaded by President Ms. Kharylle Schyaneid T. Kenoh, together with the Dean of the College of Law, staff, and the CTE-CSC gathered at the College of Law building to wait for the highly anticipated result of the Bar Examination 2022.

More than just scrolling through, this avenue also became the first activity in which unified efforts were taken in monitoring the successful bar takers throughout their journey and experiences.

The hard work of these aspiring lawyers has paid off, as they are now bona fide attorneys.

Just as Ms. Kenoh has stated,

“Regardless of who passed and who did not, as LSA President, I am very proud and happy for the WMSU Law Community.”

Words of wisdom and expression of great joy were given by the Dean of the College of Law, Attorney Jules Christian Marcos, as he stated,

“The College of Law is very happy with the result. The lowering of passing grades has greatly helped the passing rate of law students. With this understanding, we are happy that we can produce lawyers as of limited resources and we can help improve the delivery of legal services.”

Atty. Marcos also stated that being a law student demands lots of sacrifices in many different aspects of their life. Being a law student is no easy path and for those who aim to be lawyers in the future, one must be armed with resilience in order to survive any hardship they may encounter.

For those who weren’t able to make it, there will always be a next time, and the university is still proud of its endeavors.

With that, the gavel thumps for more aspirants.

𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘸𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺? 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘝𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘳!

📍 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪?

On the 9th of April 1942, Major General Edward P. King Jr. was compelled to surrender his troops to the Japanese army in the heat of the WWII. These soldiers who were taken prisoners of war included American and Filipino soldiers.

These troops were forced to march an astounding 150 kilometers to a prison camp, which resulted in numerous deaths from the heat, exhaustion, and hunger. This long journey is now known as the 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙖𝙣 𝘿𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙅𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙚. The Japanese launched a huge onslaught across secluded Southeast Asia in order to seize essential resources for the war effort.

Malaysia was invaded for one month and 23 days (from December 8, 1941, to January 31, 1942); Singapore, in a week (from February 8 to 15, 1942); and Indonesia, for three months and two days (Dec 8, 1941 to March 10, 1942). The Philippines, on the other hand, was held captive for over 5 months (from December 8, 1941 to May 6, 1942).

𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙧 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙? Several cities across the Philippines hold parades honoring WWII veterans. The main event takes places at the Mt. Samat Memorial Shrine where the Philippine president annually delivers a speech to honor veterans for their heroism.

𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙖𝙣 𝘿𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙, 𝙄𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙞𝙨, 𝙐𝙎𝘼. It is the home of the members of the 192nd Tank Battalion, a US Army unit that took part in the Battle of Bataan. However, unlike the Philippines, the town’s celebrations and parades are often held on the second Sunday of September, not April 9.

“Maundy” came from the Latin word “mandatum”, meaning a commandment or mandate.

▪️This day is also known as Holy Thursday.

▪️ It commemorates the Last Supper in which Jesus Christ shared to his apostles the bread and wine.

▪️A communion service and a foot-washing ritual are common parts of Maundy Thursday celebrations in many churches.

▪️In the evening of Maundy Thursday, Judas performed an act of treachery against Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by kissing him on the cheek and adressing him as “master.” He did it for the authorities to acknowledge and arrest Jesus. This deceitful act fostered due to the temptation of choosing money over loyalty.

🔰 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩?

Holy Week is the last week of the 40-day lent. It is celebrated annually by Christians around the world to remember and honor Jesus Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection. During this event, Christians reflect on the sufferings and sacrifices of Christ, who died for the sins of humanity.

The week-long celebration begins with Palm Sunday, when Jesus enters Jerusalem and ends with Easter Sunday, when Jesus resurrected after dying from crucifixion.

🔰 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨

Compared to other Christian festivities, the Holy week dates are different each year. This is due to the celebration of Easter, which is believed to happen near the date of the Jewish Passover. The Jewish Passover follows the Lunisolar Liturgical Calendar (Based on lunar and solar cycles), making Easter and the Holy week a ‘movable date’.

This year, Holy Week is scheduled from April 2 to April 9. With Maundy Thursday and Black Friday (April 7-8) being regular holidays and Black Saturday (April 8) a special non-working holiday, Filipinos are given the time to be with their loved ones and celebrate the event together.

🔰 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙨 𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠

1. Waving of Palaspas – Christians attend the Palm Sunday mass and have their palaspas (made of palm leaves) blessed by the priest.

2. Pabasa ng Pasyon – includes poetic narration/singing of the events that led to Christ’s death.

3. Penitensya – some devotees reenact how Christ suffered during his passion and crucifixion. This is done to show atonement for their sins.

4. Processions – A march conducted by Christian devotees, usually during Holy Wednesday and Good Friday.

5. Salubong – This is done on the morning of Easter Sunday which includes a procession and a reenactment of the meeting of Mary and Christ after he was resurrected.

🔰 The duration of the said conference paved the way for the proposal and presentation of different articles for the news, editorial, column, feature, science and technology, and sports sections, which were then approved by the Editor-in-Chief, Ms. Tricia Magne P. De Leon; Associate Editor, Ms. Chesa Marie B. Ebias; and the pseudo publication's moderator, Ms. Kharylle Schyaneid T. Kenoh.
