Filipinos mix the "modern" and the "mysterious" when it comes to weddings since the former is a way of life and the latter is influenced by our superstitious culture. Although still conservative, most contemporary altar-bound couples have a tendency to be flexible with their wedding preparations, but they have no problem adhering to a particular pamahiin (folk belief) in order to allay the worries of their families. In the end, Filipinos are open to adopting any custom, whether superstitious or not, so long as the outcome is both positive and practical.

Hours before our wedding ceremony, we were forbidden from looking at one another since doing so will bring bad luck to our marriage (ingon nila). According to popular belief, seeing each other before the wedding is like looking into the future, which is something you should try to avoid. For us, it is not really a big deal. Pero ingon gane, walay mawala.

Gladly, our wedding photographers were able to capture this photo as a reminder, not of the pamahiin, but, of our little sacrifice before getting the reward (wedding). I see no problem in applying this belief since it adds excitement and thrill during our wedding.
